I really have no idea. I think every country is concerned with themselves right now, so there's not even any monitoring or reporting going on - And the WHO is useless. I ran is atleast posting something... Russia, North korea, mongolia.. Not sure they are reporting a small fraction of whats really taking place. Syria has 9? hrmmm

Iran does not bother with reporting accuracy. Because arguably, if you walk out the door and have a chance of being droned or blown up by a landmine, or a rogue US sniper - then disease is just another obstacle on the way to the market. If 100,000 people die of coronavirus in the area - its still 10x less than the last middle east war.
Don't take it as lack of compassion, its simply the way life is. As soon as you open the door you take risks, no doubt - corona is an extremely minor risk compared to pissing off the USA, or worse an out of control panic USA. We have a neighbor that no doubt has the death potential of 10x Corona or more, if they someday decide British and French people should be expunged from the continent (Lets not forget, that the USA fought Britain and killed off a shit ton of people - because they didn't want to pay taxes.)
If a California wildfire hits at the exact same time as Corona peaks, causing extra deaths - or even that ill fated larger earthquake - Then watch out Canada, because societies can have order - but a million people on the verge of death full armed and mobile, are crazy irrational. In which case, Edmonton should be safer than Calgary - because 3 or 4 million Californians would have to go through Calgary first. But my guess: Quebec would be invaded first.
Absolute worst case scenario for Canada: California quake and/or 45 to 48 Celsius heat wave. Wildfire is actually low on the list, but bundle it with Corona - and I say it floats to the top.

Accurate, based on testing - yeah. But every country is struggling to test everyone they would like to - for various reasons. Even here in Alberta (where we lead testing compared to most of the world) we are largely limiting testing to those admitted, health care workers with symptoms, or who know they have been in contact with it. The rest... well, who knows. If you have mild to moderate symptoms, you are largely out of luck in knowing what the hell you are battling. Then there are the asymptomatic. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Contrast that with the places like you said where testing is simply unavailable or unreported for a myriad of reasons and I think it is safe to say that although the official reporting is sitting at 750k+ cases worldwide, actual cases are far, far greater. I have zero information on what true cases might be, but I think it ia reasonable to expect there are probably some 5 million people with this worldwide at absolute minimum... probably closer to 15 or 20m imo.
When considering the severity of the spread and subsequent risk of infection, I think we need to be mindful of the wild inaccuracy of the reported numbers.
That's why serology testing is so important. If 30% in the sample size already got it, then this thing is going to be over quick.

US numbers are definitely nowhere near accurate. It's laughable how bad they are. It's only certain states (and even just certain counties in those states) that are actually testing a lot. But even then a lot of them are only testing people in critical care or those with severe symptoms. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Like AB has roughly 1% confirmed cases vs testing rate. New York is nearly 10%. They're definitely missing a massive amount in the community and just testing those that need care.
I mean accurate compared to who they test. I doubt they are throwing away large amounts of positive tests and telling them they are fine.
Other countries are likely piling up bodies and not saying a word.
The US is doing that too though. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Kid gets positive, gets denied care because of a lack of insurance and later dies. They originally said he died of COVID-19 but then changed it to reclassify his death as non COVID-19 so that death doesn't show in the statistics. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health initially said the teen died from COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, but later backtracked. In a statement Tuesday, public health officials said his death will require further evaluation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
"Though early tests indicated a positive result for COVID-19, the case is complex and there may be an alternate explanation for this fatality," the statement said.
So many deaths are going to be egregiously flagged as a result of COVID. Strictly speculation on my part, but for a lot of deaths I think COVID is going to be the last straw that broke the camel's back on already complex patients.

Not to be morbid but I was wondering about this, and I haven't been able to get a grasp on this. I reviewed and it seems like 7,000 - 8,000 people die in the US daily on a 'normal' day. These daily numbers are big of course from Spain and Italy but I have a hard time grasping how many of these people were going to die in short order anyways. So does the COVID death toll go up to 1000 a day, but the normal deathtoll drop 800? Meaning 200 people a day die who wouldn't have? Will we have a period in the future where the deathtoll is actually lower daily because we're consolidating them all in shorter time? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Italy has already admitted that if you have COVID-19 and die, even if you had say, stage 4 cancer, you're a COVID-19 fatality.
Come into hospital with gunshot wound, catch covid in hospital, die. +1Covid death.

Well. Technically if one accidentally runs into a pole on a panic toilet paper run - I would count that as Covid related.
