I live in a neighborhood with an older demographic. Stopped by the grocery store this past Saturday in the late-afternoon to see if it was empty enough to grab some items... not a chance. Parking lot was 75% full with lots of pensioners. Some were socializing and many weren't keeping good social distances. Had to nope out of there without even getting out of the car.

Same thing with one of my co-workers. His parents recently returned from a month long visit to India. Apparently they were asking to have their grand kids over during the 14 day quarantine period because they haven't seen them in such a long time... :smh: It's past the 14 day period and he still won't let his kids over to his parents house for fear of them getting COVID.

The elderly do not give a fuck about social distancing and limiting the spread
Old people gotta sing, now they dead.

Oh yeah, in regard to that asinine graph that only some doof on Reddit with Excel could conceive and actually think it's valid, here's some actual numbers
Sooo pretty much what I've been thinking all along. RIP economy because we can't let the weaker antelope of the heard get eaten by the lions.

    Facts what?

It's always winter somewhere on Earth. The virus is here FOREVER. Are you saying everybody should stay inside FOREVER because of some old people?
You have the critical thinking skills of a ferret.
I am not saying that we stay in FOREVER. That is your interpretation. The proposition has always been stay in until we control the virus either with our immune system, proven treatment, or vaccines.
If you have been paying attention, the virus does not appear to be seasonal. See Ecuador, Australia, ME, Singapore. I have cited studies and formal reports in previous pages, so your assertion that I learned something recently does not hold up.

Yes, I do have the critical thinking skills of a ferret. A cute ferret. What exactly are your qualifications to allow you to disqualify me as intellectually inferior?
If you are equally unqualified, as I am, then it makes sense that you too have the critical thinking skills of a ferret, albeit likely not as cute as me-ferret.
Please do keep insulting my intelligence if that makes you feel better.

I would add that we are all trying to make sense of this situation together, and it's hard as hell to understand for most of us. Please, everyone, try to practice patience and understanding with each other now more than ever.
    Thanks ExtraSlaw on the side.

I just have one question, does anyone know what Covid-19 does to the bats? No one seems to want to address this.
Nothing. Bats have been circulating coronaviruses forever. They have an insane immune system, and some research has shown that they even practice social distancing from ill bats. It's really fascinating.

Anyone who doesn't self-isolate should be charged with bio-terrorism.

This could be interesting to know: Anyone know someone from mainland China that was part of the national lockdown if the gov't. provided monetary relief like the US/Canada at the moment? If not, then we're definitely heading to hyperinflation and we're fucked as a nation.
@dirtsniffer except Gold's Gym! Took them a while to shut down.

We're already doing that, by having everyone stay home. The economy would be better off if only 28.8% of people were WFH/self isolating.

Instead half the country is going to go bankrupt.
That is 28.8% of obese. We need to add old age, pre-existing conditions, and deduct any crossovers. We also have to account for people who live with them who cannot go out for fear of carrying the disease back home. Assuming there are none of the above, 28.8% is an enormous amount. Many businesses will still go bankrupt if a third of their business disappeared overnight. Especially when their budget is so tight that they only have a month's slack on revenue generation.

Add to that, the Saudi/Russian price war impact on our high capex oil sands. It is the perfect storm. This is not a simple solution, and I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out a likely outcome. There are multitudes of factors that my ferret brain cannot begin to comprehend.

Almost all of the strongly affected countries around the world have enacted strict laws against slipping out of self-isolation. From North Korea shooting a guy, Singapore revoking passports, to fines and imprisonment.

Except it wouldn't just be 28.8% of people. It would be the 28.8% of overweight people, plus the rest of the vulnerable population, plus the people that live with them, because otherwise there isn't a point for anybody to self-isolate.

This is a great 13 minute video on the Chinese regime’s cover up. No doubt it’s inflammatory but it’s factual

TLDR is that this could have been contained but because of their coverup, here we are now. Chinese communist government needs to be held accountable. They should pay reparations when this is all over.

In all fairness, more than one person "questioning" the response to COVID also advocated for letting the virus run amok among our society. It's hard to separate those two points given that we know that an uncontrolled spread of COVID would be a death sentence for millions.
Absolutely. I just think that the way Bob is getting his point across isn't being absorbed how he intends.

Edit - and I tend to forget the unrealistic and unreasonable people on THAT side of the argument too I suppose....

honestly the US along with the rest of the world should sue them somehow. Germany paid reparations after WW2 for fucking everything up, why shouldn't China?

and if they don't agree to it then just don't pay debt to them, problem solved. good luck trying to collect against the strongest military.

For the record, I have always thought Bob to be a great guy and have fully supported his business. I would have purchased exclusively from him if he carried Nokians for winter - which is no fault of his.
We simply have a vast difference in opinion on the severity of this issue and the appropriateness of the societal response.

It could never be proven. Sort of like you can't ever prove that Cheese is criminally overpriced in Canada.

Not paying back debt would annihilate the US's credit rating, which would do way more damage than adding more debt for emergency payments to US citizens

Yup the US would never not pay it back. They can however in 1/4 of a second print up extra money and pay off all debts, which would probably also cause an inflationary spiral worse than anything seen to date.

Mind you, we are already at $13 Avocado toast and $117,000 low income San Francisco - So I don't know if its already there.
