So are you proposing that we lock down in Jan? When nobody else started locking down? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
And while cases peaked in Apr/May in the rest of the world, we stay lock down until June?
2 more months than other countries in the world? After we have seen what 1.5 month toll on the economy already is?
Yeah, we are all equipped with hindsight now but back then would any measure be even more questionable than now when a lot of people saying this whole thing is a hoax and we need to open up just 6 weeks later?
I just don't get this line of criticism. What is this proposed acting early means? Putting all foreign travelers into mandatory camps?

Am I crazy in thinking that Canada has done an amazing job of "flattening the curve"? I mean, even in harder hit areas, the hospitals are not overwhelmed, we aren't storing corpses in fridge trucks in parking lots. I don't think it gets a whole lot "flatter" than the Canadian numbers, does it? Even in Calgary, which the news tells me is "harder hit than most areas" it's been like a few deaths a day? That's amazingly good compared to initial projections. Shit, Deena says they had to revise the models waaaaay downwards because it has been so well controlled here. What the heck am I missing?

Yup, we've done a great job. And the key is that even if this isn't our peak, we've delayed it long enough to expand our testing (up to 7k per day compared to 2k per day in March) and we've gotten additional PPE supplies and supply chains set up as well. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. If it wasn't for the Cargill/JBS outbreaks we'd actually have really great numbers right now, unfortunately those companies not taking things seriously fucked things up but we're still recovering. Over a thousand workers and however many close contacts of those are our current spike. You look at Edmonton and they're only getting a dozen cases a day so all the social distancing effects are working well we just unfortunately had the outbreaks and have to ride those out now.
I totally think our peak will be in like 6-8 weeks, and that's really fine by me, as treatments are getting better by the day, and the testing and PPE capacity is increasing too. I personally plan to be hidden in the mountains somewhere with my family around that time too. I can stay pretty darned isolated for about 14 days without hassle.

Man, and I thought the oil and gas industry was bad at predictive modelling...

No, what I question is the liberals lack of action when they were advised in EARLY January of the seriousness of the situation - and did not act on the recommendations from the experts.
(in order of chronology)
- ban direct flights from Wuhan (if there were any)
- ban flights originating from China (most of the early carriers were, surprise, from china)
- immediate institution of measures for the vulnerable in Canada (eg. isolation)
(and then INCREMENTALLY escalating as needed, close borders, etc.)
Had the dildos in Ottawa done something (even small) immediately, we could have likely avoided a lot of the needless debacle.
They did not flatten the curve, even when it was told to them that small measures should be taken in EARLY january.
I used some VERY advantage proprietary technology to help the Alberta government with this one. You are welcome society. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

You meant this travel ban started in Feb in US?This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Didn't seems to do much and would have burnt the bridge for much needed PPEs later.
Like you said, we have 1 case in late Jan. And there are 430k returned from China to US before the ban and 40k after and all it takes is 1.
Ok, you stopped the wave from China. What about Iran and Italy weeks later?
The only thing I can fault the feds is not enough and sloppy PPE stockpile. But majority of that responsibility I believe is actually on the provinces and not the Feds.

He clearly is looking for reasons to attack the Liberals. It doesn't matter if it's sound or not. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
No, the point is that the liberals did fuck all, even when advised by the experts on the seriousness of the situation in early Jan.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Then, because of their inaction - we the people have to suffer with the draconian measures.
In my opinion, had the liberals (or the PCs) conducted an incremental shutdown/closure/isolation (as mentioned earlier) we
a) could have eliminated some of the stupid measures and
b) gotten out of this earlier.
To put it differently, the governments (liberals and PC) did not flatten the curve - even on the advise of the experts, but then expected us to do it for them.
Again, WHAT DO you propose they DO? WHAT CAN THEY DO that doesn't end up at the same point we are at now? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
What data shows we are not flattening the curve?
And if you look at US which is out of our control, how could we be out of this earlier if US is still sick?
