I think that's closer to the silent majority. From my conversations held at six feet apart I find the majority have had enough, think things went a bit too far but are scared to speak up because of the overzealous do-gooder SJW Karens of the world.
SJW and Karen's are pretty incompatible people.

If anyone wants to volunteer to help out with COVID; Fuse33 is looking for a volunteer or two this afternoon to help assemble face shields; they're providing 12,000 face shields to AHS for frontline workers.

How is it untrue? Heard immunity means the majority of people build the antibodies from fighting off the virus. That concept is built on the fact people contract the virus and recover. Flattening the curve just spreads out the amount of time in which people contract the virus to avoid overwhelming the healthcare systems. Both these strategies involve people getting infected.

If the intent was to avoid infection forever why are governments opening things up in anticipation of a second or third wave? Why not hide out for months, wear masks, live in a bubble? It's not the god damn flesh eating disease....
In almost all cases, flattening the curve will also lower the R0 and ultimately the area under the curve.

This really ties into your mask idea @flipstah and, is a good visual representation of a lot of this thread.

Also, people are really bad at accurately remembering what they used to think. Now that we see it wasn't as bad as feared, we say we always knew that it wouldn't be.

If you want people to take you seriously, look up your old posts from back then.
I stand by what I felt. Should've swiftly banned flights as soon as we knew this was a threat, then escalated protocols as required. But we should be de-escalating protocols as we learn more and have indicators that it's not the threat we first assumed.

Why do people continue to say this? It isn't true.
Might want to pass this along to government's and WHO, because that's what their intentions were with it. But curious what your opinion/interpretation of it is?

I don't think we have enough information yet to determine it wasn't/isn't as bad as feared. The fact that our infections are way under the models doesn't yet make that conclusive. If you're in a top fuel dragster trying to stop before a cliff, if you get off the gas half a second earlier than you expected, then you will end up pretty far from the edge of the cliff looking like there was never a problem.
The fact that our infection rate is WAY more than we knew about, and our calculated mortality rate is WAY lower as a result. I would say we 100% know it is not as bad as feared. More data is always better, and I'm sure we will learn more as time goes on, but our current indicators are pretty revealing

Banning flights was never the solution - sending those flying to a mandatory supervised quarantine for 14-40days would have been the proper step...

Handing them a pamphlet saying if you're sick stay isolated didn't work.

Yeah but I've been in my Arizona winter home for months, so I've got nothing in my cupboards and need to stock up on groceries before I self isolate. It's just one grocery trip, I'll be fine.

Flattening the curve with our current mitigation efforts was intended to delay. It was a tactical retreat until we had more options. With more options, we can manage the disease better and it gets us closer to a vaccine. It gets people to understand how to mitigate even with less extreme isolation measures. All of these things don't just flatter the curve, they reduce the area under the curve. Also: when you flatten the infection curve you reduce the area under the *mortality* curve, even if you don't reduce the area under the infection curve as much.

The reason the models were wrong is because the assumptions and the inputs were not accurate or representative. However, the quality of data we have now is not sufficiently robust to claim that we can now create accurate models. More accurate? Sure. But the models we create now, and the policies we create now will still have giant error bars on them. That's the fact of life with exponential growth and a low data environment.

Yeah, we are all okay with Facebook/Instagram/Google tracking every website we visit, listening to our conversions, recording us through our cameras, selling our data to the highest bidder... but heaven forbid the government for using our phone's bluetooth to help control a pandemic and get our lives back to normal.

I think the same people who trust the govt to do nothing more than completely fuck up our private data are already the same people without CrackBook and InstaSloot, etc.

You might be ok with it, but I'm not. (nor do I have Facebook or Instagram, and my google location tracking is off)
