That's old news. The new threat is the SA variant with different spike protein which may render the current vaccine pointless.

I see what you did there.

Alberta likely not going to be any better but Sask saw a huge spike:

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/beta.ct...1_5254636.html

Saskatchewan saw a large jump in its test positivity rate on Monday with just over 19 per cent of tests coming back positive.

The test positivity rate has hovered around 10 per cent since Christmas as case numbers have remained steady while the number of tests being performed have dropped.

So, current restrictions "expire" next week. Think we'll see case counts spike from Christmas in the next few days, or nah? And then, will the restrictions be renewed?
Let's all work on positivity this week.

No one followed the rules anyway so why bother renewing the restrictions.

Except vacation travel. Got to ban those dirty heathens who would dare sit on a beach.

From what I remember from thanksgiving talk, the spike should be apparent within 2 weeks. So we would be near the end of that situation. I doubt we have any spike.

Sooooo much mixed shit out there, it’s hard to know if you are a conspiracy theorist because you look at the numbers, false positives, age group / pre existing conditions for the death count, mislabeled deaths, payouts for padding numbers, no flu cases, masks do very little if you aren’t a moist speaker, big box stores always packed... or a non conspiracy theorist, this is the worst shit and we are all going to die if we don’t listen to the appointed medical professionals that only care about our wellness.

I’ve read that the vaccine doesn’t prevent you from getting it, just helps make the virus “more mild”. Also only good for 1-2 months and doesn’t prevent transmission. That said (conspiracy? Help me out), this can and will never go away, ever, just a bunch of people that might get less sick and still need to follow quarantine measures until... ever?

The stories I’ve heard from nurses I know / the amount of layoffs, closed wings of hospitals, covid wings near empty but still told to put people in hallways, the flu seasons are always a busy time but this year there is hardly any patients can other years, it’s hard not to form an opinion... but that makes me a conspiracy theorist. Or one of my friends clients who’s son was decapitated in a motorcycle accident this fall and it was listed as covid on his death certificate which they are fighting to have changed. I mean, maybe he had a coughing fit because of covid? Must be it and how dare it be questioned? I’m at a loss on all of this and get hammered for being a tin foil hat person although I only call it like I see it (those who know me know my filter is a broken window). Thoughts boys? Shoot me down

If we don't have a spike by next Tuesday or at least trending up, then we can almost conclude that school is the problem.

Because so far we have been relatively peaceful when schools are out.

I think a lot of data has pointed to it's at least good for 6 months and up to 1 year. Of course we need more time to figure out how much longer it will last and that making sure a new variant doesn't show up that require another vaccine.

Vaccine will help you in fighting it but to my understanding it doesn't prevent transmission but it will probably shorten the time frame where one is contagious.

no, it sounds like you are asking questions about the BS narrative - the start of change. Too many conspiracy theories turn into conspiracy facts.

The number of active cases has been declining since mid-December. I wouldn't be against the idea of extending the restrictions for another 3-4 weeks if it meant getting them down to summer time numbers when they were less than 2000. As inconvenient as it would be, I feel like it would be less disruptive than to open things up and then shut them back down in a month or two's time when they start climbing again.

Notably we are seeing solid drops in both hospitalization and ICU numbers as well which is supposedly the whole point of all this Christmas BS.

Same, at least 2 weeks just to give the spread for Christmas/NYE to pass by a full cycle. I also wish we'd delay schools (at the least high schools) re-opening but that won't happen.

As entertaining as the Americans ripping their country apart is...

Holy shit Quebec. 4 week province wide curfew order. That has to be completely unprecedented.

    $6k fines for breaking curfew.

I think they should lift restriction of everything else but keep schools online.

If the number stay down til end of Feb, open up schools. Just to prove that schools are the problem.

Yeah, proving that school is the problem is not a win for any politician, or for society.

I’ve often wondered with the worlds largest pandemic with so many positive cases, what information have you heard to help you get better quicker / make yourself more comfortable while on your 2 week quarantine? There must be a guideline or something... I know quite a few people that have had it and were told nothing but stay home. Is that the cure?

it's the standard sicko protocol. Sleep, fluids, tylenol for fever (I guess they're done with not ibuprofen now?). There's no magic cure, just has to run it's course. Unless you get really sick - then they give you other stuff.
