Speaking back to the overtime, how much further ahead are we only 2-3 weeks later? Already out of supplies. Could have waited the couple days, saved a bunch of money on OT and still been in the same place today.
We aren't further ahead per se, we're now at capacity (so on pace).

But not paying overtime over Christmas doesn't mean they haven't been paying it since to get there. The main criticism being that if the government wanted, the feds could be covering 75% of those OT costs, but the province chose not to, for political reasons.

Those 2-3 weeks could have resulted in more infections/deaths. With the amount of money we've already lost due to Covid, a few OT hours is just a drop in the ocean.
I mean, no one has their second dose yet.. apparently the first dose doesn't get you to 25% pf where you'll be after 2, and it takes about 2 weeks for the first shot to have an impact..

Anyone know why health canada is so slow to approve other vaccines? The Astra-Zeneca one is approved in the UK almost 3 weeks ago but still being reviewed here.

"reviewed" by the federal government doesn't mean what you might think. Just ask the pipeline companies.

    I mean. Probably.

Next 10 years of paying for all this aren’t looking too hot either.

"write off" is a bit strong. Just learn to get a satisfying life from the magic of friendship.

There will be a swath of drugs under review approved by health Canada just prior to Trudeau announcing a spring election.

100% no Stampede, vaccinations will have maybe started to roll out to gen pop by that point and the border may still be closed so no American riders/carnies/etc.

    Waiting for US data.

The UK trials for the AZ vaccine had concerns with the test group (age), and the news of the dosing schedule 'irregularities.' The US trial group is slower because they delayed it when there were reports of UK trial members getting sick. So that's why other countries are waiting.

In Canada and the US' case, the situation isn't as dire. We're at a position that without any other vaccines, we're still looking at a realistic 2021 rollout with the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. The UK didn't have that. They're pretty much all-in on AZ, so there were definitely some political motivations on getting AZ approved.

US data comes in late January.

The J&J vaccine data is on a similar timescale, but wouldn't be ready for roll-out until March because they have production delays. So AZ is potentially a February rollout, J&J not really until Q2 at the progress they're going.

Running out of vaccines is the simplest move politically and the pragmatic move for the rollout.

WHO Scientist doesn't have evidence that the vaccine will prevent transmission of Covid19
    "
“I don't believe we have the evidence on any of the vaccines to be confident that it's going to prevent people from actually getting the infection and therefore being able to pass it on,” Dr Swaminathan said in a media conference."

Stanford Researchers found evidence that lockdowns and shutdowns make almost no difference in the spread.

“In summary, we fail to find strong evidence supporting a role for more restrictive non-pharmaceutical interventions in the control of COVID in early 2020,” the study concludes.

“We do not question the role of all public health interventions, or of coordinated communications about the epidemic, but we fail to find an additional benefit of stay-at-home orders and business closures. The data cannot fully exclude the possibility of some benefits.

However, even if they exist, these benefits may not match the numerous harms of these aggressive measures. More targeted public health interventions that more effectively reduce transmissions may be important for future epidemic control without the harms of highly restrictive measures.”

Fun article from the pandemic in 2011. Hospitals at overcapacity isn’t nothing new, but in 2021 it’s fucking horrifying.

You've accidentally written something that's correct and yet you still manage to reach the wrong conclusion.

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.
