Yes, but when we look at some kind of cascading heath care failure, which has happened in some cities in the world, it shows we are quite far from that currently. That's got to be a good sign.

Yeah, I think our ICU numbers are good. And if it wasn't for a couple of shitshows in LTC facilities, we would be in really good shape.

The normal state of affairs in LTC facilities is depressingly poor. This virus will help highlight that, although I don't know if there's any appetite for higher costs to pay for better care.

    Is that even real pork??

As for how we are doing, we aren't in bad shape overall compared to many other countries. We may not be on the down curve quite yet but new cases in Canada appear to have levelled off for over a week now.

This is a big problem and one way it needs to be addressed is in nursing schools. Modern nursing students are allergic to old people, poop and night shifts. This needs to change and the number of RN's caring for the elderly needs to increase. It's currently way to heavily weighted on HCA's.

I'd be wary of eating pig. H1N1 was technically swine flu - you just had to be near the pig, not even eat the undercooked pig allegedly. Bird flu, oftentimes chicken based.

As silly as it sounds, its almost surprising that people haven't caught more rare diseases from bats and the like. If mad cow ever hit, we would all be screwed here in North America.

Got this msg from a friend in NS earlier, seems they are turning it up a notch on the enforcement:

"So my cousin and her boyfriend crossed the border this weekend from the us into Canada. They are moving home until the pandemic is over. They aren’t married yet and she is only allowed to be in the US for a total of 6 months of the year, So they needed to leave. At the border (not sure is Canada/us or NS boarder) they wanted to know exactly where she was going and for how long. Lots of questions. They are staying in an Air BnB in *small location* for now. Once they got to their place, it wasn’t long before the RCMP showed up at the remote location to ensure the answers to their earlier questions were factual."

nurses would work with elderly patients if the pay was the same. But from what I've seen the majority of work in those facilities is part-time minimum wage work. The costs for adequate staffing of real nurses would mean large increases in monthly costs to the residents.

They’re saying by Sept, which makes sense for every direction. If we’re to restart our world, it MUST be before the next flu season.

It's not reasonable or maybe even possible to keep north America in lockdown past September anyway. Schools need to reopen so businesses can reopen. I don't think it's possible to say that can't happen until a vaccine is found.

Trigger warning, this is quite depressing :
A day in the life of a NYC Paramedic during Covid19.

    The last statement is stunning.

Not one of the 12 people suspected to have died of Covid-19 on Anthony's shift had been tested for coronavirus. As a result, their deaths were not included in the official coronavirus death toll in New York last Sunday, which stood at 594.
