People on social media are giving it to the authorities for allowing Stampede to go on.

I admit, the optics look brutal right now. But a lot can happen in two months.

    Can.
The only positive thing about the Stampede being allowed to go forward is it at least gives me a timeframe to determine when I can open my business again.

A prom is probably going to be fine.

    In August.

This. They basically gave the date everyone is going to act like everything is 100% ready to rock. Whether the restrictions are in place or not.

I thought Stampede was being setup as a mass heard immunity rodeo for all the hillbillies anti-vaxxers that dont want the vaccine. I'm cool with that.

Real hillbillies don't go to stampede. This is for city slickers that wish they were hillbillies, like me.

Im fine with that tbh. The spacing gives time for any rise in cases to show which hopefully it won't. Giving people social gatherings on step 1 will be a good step towards relieving the pandemic fatigue.

Edit: Were at 65% of the 40+ crowd. So should hit the first target end of May give or take.
They'd probably be better served just extending the current restrictions for two more weeks, extending hours at vaccination clinics and telling people that public health orders disappear two weeks after we hit 70% of the eligible population with a dose, we can probably hammer out 20% in 5 weeks. A Saskatchewan plan doesn't work with Kenney talking the Stampede up since Step 1 would still be around when Stampede starts. Unless the plan is for a garbage Stampede with booked times, time limits on staying and no midway.

Stampede will be incredibly different. That midway comes from the USA, as do the majority of the rodeo competitors. That ain't happening.

So what's left, smaller rodeo at 1/3 capacity and a televised fireworks display?

Half the product vendors, five rides, and a bunch of food/ alcohol options, plus an all-Canadian rodeo with 1/10th of the prize value. Actually sounds great to me.

Well we are at about 1.9M Albertans with at least 1 dose. 3.3M 18+ at 70% = 2.31M with at least 1 dose as the goal.

So we only need another 0.4M to take their 1st shot between now and June 17th and we reach stage 3 as set out by Sask by July 9th. That will still leave around 0.6M doses coming for 2nd dose and 12-18.

We need about 650,000 more first doses administered to the 18+ population before 70% in that group is achieved.

If we follow Saskatchewan's plan, it's minimum nine weeks after 70% of those 40+ have their first dose that Stage 3 can start
