LoL! I didn't realize it was about something as important as your feelings.

Restaurants weren’t checking IDs before and I doubt they will be now. They need to collect contact info from one person in the party and they’ll probably be tiptoeing around that even

Good discussion on TWiV with a couple of antibody assay experts. TLDR: it's unlikely the new variants are becoming more commonplace because of increased transmissibility. It appears to be as a result of selective pressure in the population.

No doubt that we are coming to the end of it soon enough. 10% of the USA vaccinated and maybe 10% already got the real thing, pretty much means by end of summer people who want the vaccine or have caught will be majority.

I was at Originals joes for take out and they had a contact tracer qr scan thing when you walked in and then you would show it to the server. Much simpler that way. Idk if they took the info by hand or what previously.

Hope this goes well for sit down restaurants who need it badly. Im just sticking with takeout to the very end and I have no staff lol just me

If the suicide rate is lower, I'm both surprised and relived. I know a lot of people struggling this year...
Well, seems 2020 data indicates that suicide rate is lower than normal. Thats good

Some states in Australia have this system for all shops and restaurants so if there is a case in the community they just get a log of all the places every person has been to and the exact times they were there.

Fuck contacts in winter. They dry up so bad here.

MSM lies. I've been assured by several Beyonders that half the country has committed suicide by now due to Covid restrictions. Just look at the non- suicide chart that is ON TOP of suicide chart, making it seem better than it is.

I hear you, and I am not "those people".
But is there any fucking way in the world that the suicide rate could be lower than average after the last 11 months this country has been through? It's impossible, isn't it?
I don't believe it. At all. I'm too lazy to look into it and I'll accept criticism for not researching before doubling down on an opinion; but, I don't believe it.

It’s a stacked area chart, real advanced stuff apparently.

    1 + 1 = 2

It’s basic math, not some bizarre hidden agenda.
You know how we know we are getting to end of this thing? Basic math is the only thing left to be criticized.

If the variants doesn't materialize in this population next 3 weeks. We'll open it up some more. Now there are lines in the sand for people to achieve . It's not as vague as before.

They mention about it a bit in that article.

    Overdoses on the rise
At the same time, there has been a significant rise in the number of overdose-related deaths during the pandemic.

Black said some overdose deaths can end up being classified as suicides, but it's often quite difficult for investigators to determine the intent of a person who dies from opioid poisoning or other illicit substances.

Opioid overdoses spike amid COVID-19 pandemic, with more than 3 Albertans dying per day
B.C.'s overdose death toll for the year passes 1,500 after 153 killed in November, coroner reports
"They could have been using it recreationally; they could have been using intentionally to hurt themselves; they could have been using it recklessly; or they could have been using it in a moment of despair," he said.

"You can't really be certain, because the person who could answer the question can't do it, so you have to try to piece it together. And, usually when they make a determination, they do it on the preponderance of all the evidence."
So no, they aren't counting them, even though its highly likely that many are suicides.

Also, using AB as a benchmark is not exactly 'good statistics' given that AB has been in a deep depression and many have lost their jobs etc for years prior to the pandemic.

I think the numbers are countrywide except Ontario.

They are also still holding out a theory that this could be "honeymoon" phase if Japanese's suicide numbers are to be believed.

As for OD death, AB's number went from ~800 in 2018 to ~600 in 2019 and to 1000 in 2020. But given patient counts dropped 1k, it's probably less people are asking for help.

If you like to go over the data....
    https://healthanalytics.alberta.ca/S...-welcome=false

EDIT: Calgary top OD deaths out of last 5 years is 2018. Q2 and Q3 has huge drop in supervised consumption, may be a lead indicator of increased deaths.

You know the saying "misery loves company"? It's mostly correct. People who are depressed and suicidal actually feel better knowing they aren't alone, so when they see the rest of the world being depressed, they feel more normal than they felt before, and less suicidal.

Or they could be classifying suicides as Covid deaths.

This is likely very true. "Misery loves company" can be quite a weird feeling some times.

Not surprising to me that people aren't jumping out of windows.

Maybe its because of less to do, less stress. When life gives you the cough, Netflix and chill. Even started up some games from my steam library (knew there was a reason I got so many)
