We are so prepared that it takes 2 weeks to figure out that she may be infected and another for confirmation from the national lab.
Still no plans to curtail flights out of high risk areas. Thanks gov.

mitsu- What are your thoughts with the massive closures of cities, stadiums or schools that countries have introduced. It seems your not concerned about the virus. Shouldnt we all be concerned when you see countries shutting down entire provinces/cities, the prevention of professional sports teams from being shown to the public or entire closures of school systems?

You dont see these steps for the flu. For people to dismiss all that the govts are doing as tho its somehow normal or no different then the flu is crazy.

Theres some historic efforts that have never been taken in our lifetime all in the hope of preventing the disease from spreading. So far they have all failed.
Cost savings, of course. I get it. Mitsu3000gt would rather get COVID19 than the flu.

Whats scary is the edmonton doctors saying that they are not prepared and haven't been given any direction from the government on how to handle the outbreak. Just awesome. Someone on reddit mentioned that they had a source saying there are 2 cases at the Royal Alex hospital in downtown Edmonton but a press release hasn't yet been done.

Just flew out to Denver on Tuesday and back today for a work trip. Flight out had like 20 people on it, was awesome, I basically slept across all 3 seats, 95% of the plane behind me empty. Flight back today had about double the people...40 or so...same deal, slept 3 seats across. Didn't realize the impact would be that big even in north america.

I think the concern is how quickly COVID-19 is spreading, and the fact we don’t have a vaccine for it yet.
Why is it people can't understand this? Yes flu kills more people every year in shear numbers. But this Corona Virus can achieve those numbers easily once it spreads enough. It is highly contagious, it is contagious before symptoms show, we don't have a proper way to isolate it, and vaccines are years away. With how easy it spreads, it is only a matter of time before it is competing with regular flu for death champion.

Not to mention we don't even know the real death rate for this thing yet when ground zero for it where the most reliable statistics could come from, is lying about the numbers.

Calgary woman in her 50's is showing symptoms and has tested positive at a provincial level, but they are waiting for full confirmation through the national lab. She was on the Grand Princess cruise in Cali.

There was a full week where she was out and about from when she returned till she decided to self-isolate.... What an absolute moron.
I know several people who came back from flights and one from a cruise that weren't near any of the effected areas but self quarantined for the sake of others. Some people

Just to be clear for anyone that missed it, this isn't the same cruise ship that had hundreds of infected people a month ago, that was the diamond princess. It's the same company but a completely different ship. As far as I could find at the time she returned there weren't any reports of infections on the ship she was on.

That being said .... now multiple people from that cruise ship to Mexico have shown symptoms so the current wave of people to hawaii are now in quarantine and being tested as well.

Still really sucks but aside from just being around a lot of people on a cruise there weren't any signs when she returned that anyone was infected. Presumably a week later she started getting sick and thats when she self-quarantined and is now tested.

Would be good if the country issued a statement saying anyone leaving the country at this point should self-quarantine for a while .... but we all know our government can't make a decision to save its life.

As a person with a team of reports; this is my exact challenge given Spring break travel plans that are booked for my crew.
Be the asshole that allows them back into the office right after international travel (non hot zone) and risk infection to the whole office; or tell them to stay home right after travel and then have to constantly be explaining my rationale to senior management.

If that means 2 weeks of EI, sign me up.

Morneau did say there will be measure in 2020 budget to address quarantine and coronavirus. Wait to hear what that will be.
