to be fair to Buster, this one was pretty close:This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Jan 4 is only 10 days after Christmas, and phase 1 was planned for Jan-March.Approval in days or weeks, with vaccination starting around christmas for the first group of Top priority people - maybe earlier. That phase should go through Jan/Feb or so to get that first chunk of doses out to healthcare workers, etc. By then we might see approval for J+J and AZ vaccines, which would double our supply.
Can’t we all band together and try to prove Buster wrong just once? I’m with ES on this one and I marked the day in my calendar for future reference. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

They update it daily. Whichever source works best for yeah. The per capita is nice now, Bow West looked to be so low in numbers (only sub 100) but per capita they're actually almost a black area now. NE has over 1% actively infected, pretty crazy. Banff and Canmore popping off too.

You guys got me all wrong, I'm not trying to prove Buster wrong, I'm trying to highlight the incompetence of the Canadian federal government. If I'm wrong about that, then that's awesome and amazing news.
Just wait until I start my rant about how social, business and travel restrictions should be lifted entirely once high risk groups and health care workers have had the opportunity to be vaccinated. But I'll save that for a few weeks . . . .

sad when quoting official statistics means I am a prison bitch - thats how far the MSM narrative has run its course, folks. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
That's going to be a tricky policy decision. You really don't want covid, and we should really be trying to minimize spread even after the high risk groups are vaccinated...but I think it will be very hard to do. I'm going to maintain the status quo lifestyle until I'm personally vaccinated. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Stating the obvious...this is just identified cases. And I think we are still probably 10x (maybe 8x?) cases existing vs identified. I would think that in the last week, we've seen ~32,000 Calgarians infected. This virus is a fucking bitch. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Buster I totally agree that I don't want to get the virus, and that I will be keeping my personal risk mitigation measures in place longer than many people. However, once the hospitals aren't full, and high risk people have had the chance to get the vaccination, fucking let 'er rip.

But in response to your downplaying of the virus, I do not share your sentiment for a few reasons:
- Even though Covid deaths are mainly old people, I respect our seniors enough that I would rather they not experience being unable to breathe for days before they die. And I care if they die. To me, they are not inconsequential as you suggest.
- The long term effects of Covid are not known. I suspect some people who get it are going to experience issues from it for a lifetime. We already know symptoms can last for months. Either way, just getting the virus is extremely unpleasant for many, and I don't view pain and suffering as inconsequential either.
- Nay-sayers usually mention our low numbers, citing a small percentage of the population who actually get it, or die from it. This is absolutely true. But did you actually stop to think about WHY our numbers are low compared to, say, the USA? It's because our governments have worked hard to mandate measures and citizens have largely tried to keep our numbers low. If they did what the US did (or more accurately, DIDN'T do), we would be about four times higher in both cases and deaths, and while these countries get vaccinated before we do, you can probably expect 5-6 times our current rates. Does that still seem like a low number to you? Do you feel our health care system could cope with those numbers? What about the health care workers who have to care for all those dying people... did you consider the effect it has on them?
- Our capacity to care for the cases reduces our capacity to care for others without the virus. These beds don't just magically appear - with the exception of the field hospitals Kenny is now asking for. That means less beds to care for critically injured citizens, and even if they manage to cover those people off, it means more people suffering from ailments who are getting their care bumped months down the road. People with gall bladders causing them excruciating pain but can't get treatment. People with immobile backs or joints who suffer in tremendous pain because there's no room for them until this is all over. Did you consider them?
It's easy to look on the surface and care more about the impact of these lockdowns on ourselves. It takes a little more digging and compassion to appreciate the bigger picture.

A senior family member of mine died because of all this. Move on, people die due to whatever causes of life. I'm not going to blame other people because of their selfishness or points of view. We live, we die, its nature. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Firstly, sorry to hear that. But are you honestly suggesting life isn't important because we all eventually die? While the latter is true, I think most want to live the longest and fullest life possible. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I mean fullest is a bit subjective, my uncle died of it in a Montreal long care home, he had been fighting with Alzheimer’s for the better part of a decade so I would be hard pressed to say he would have been better offThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

It goes both ways, maybe before telling people to stay home or to only go out for what one feels are "essentials" or telling people not to see friends/family or telling people to stay away from the bar/casino, people could think about the circumstances of the people doing these things? Maybe that person lives alone, works from home and has no real outside social contact. Maybe going to get a drink or go to the casino is the only time they'll see/talk to someone else in person. Maybe going out for a walk in a mall is the break they get from being home alone 24/7. It's very easy for someone to tell others what to do when they have what that other person lacks and might be getting by breaking "the rules".This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member.
