So we no longer have to isolate when we have Covid.

This is fantastic! Now I can sneeze and cough over everyone.

Seems to me the government is toying around with forcing herd immunity.

Shot are readily available. Tons of seniors already got the 4th shot. And shot and no shot, everyone probably already had already got COVID.

And sounds like vaccine mandate on travel is coming down today.

zero point having restrictions in place further. They were only virtue signaling at this point.

I'm not smart enough to say when they became useless. I believe the restrictions made sense at one point, and they don't now.

Had to take an ambulance a few weeks ago.
I'm a few minutes from Foothills and they took me to South Health. Foothills had 10 ambulances waiting to get in.

Didn't really have any issues, placed in Orthopedics and barely saw anyone. I didn't have visitors and was waiting for some tests.

On the other hand, if you're in the hospital now, you still can only have 2 designated visitors. It appears pretty full still, with covid sufferers and ahs is attempting to keep them separated.
There's a new system in place as of mid May destinationing Ambulances for load balancing. Its working a bit, except Foothills is the same gong show as always because they have too many specialties and they frequently (ie daily) shut down 1/3-1/2 the department for staffing shortages.

That could have been while PLC was put on EMS diversion for a couple of days while they transitioned to the new Connect Care system.

If you're there long enough (I forget the threshold) you get that increased to 4 designated visitors.
What a disaster that was. PLC not taking patients for the weekend and then extending it basically another day, as well as Childrens not taking patients from us......Just made a bad situation worse for that period of time. We still have the rest of the sites to transition yet

Of all the many issues with emergency healthcare in Alberta, the one that drives me craziest is how long it takes an ambulance crew to be released from the hospitals after they arrive. Super inefficient. Feel bad for the paramedics who are caught up in this.

Driver cannot leave until patient is in the care of a doctor, or patient leaves of their own accord.

Messed up my knee last night, made it worse today at work thinking it got better overnight. In and out in 30 minutes at the walk in clinic by Chinook. Emergency rooms are for suckers (or actual emergencies)

I know. That's what I'm talking about. The hospitals need improvements in either resources or processes to allow that transfer of care to happen more efficiently.

I would start with the type of things that actually get you transported to hospital. How many of those waiting patients need to be at the hospital?

Comes back to my theory: stop treating ODs

Generally, I agree. We could not remain shut down, nor is it realistic to expect everyone to wear masks for a decade. The restrictions were causing massive issues of their own.

However, as unpopular a position as it appears to be on Beyond, I still view ensuring those infected are mandated to not spread it further as a good idea still. We cannot rely on the public to make reasonable and prudent decisions on their own. We can be guaranteed elimination of this mandate will cause some to become infected who otherwise would not have been, and although most will make it through, this decision will cost lives and suffering to many. How many? Who knows. Numbers mean little at this point anyway, but I personally would rather save some lives and have that one restriction remain in place.

I mean, what happens if it were to stay in effect? Someone gets Covid, and was mandated to miss work. Sucks for them, but is probably beneficial for everyone else they work closely with. I'm not even sure businesses even have the legal right to deny someone to work now, which means they are effectively forced to accept outbreaks in their workplaces. To me, dropping this last restriction will just lead us to more problems - not less.

Should people be mandated to stay home if they have the flu?

Public shaming works better than mandate? Who still show up to the office with a runny nose or soar throat?

The bar for a government to mandate something should be very very high.

Sniffly noses does not seem to meet the threshold.
