Of course they are, “just 2 more weeks” per usual
Businesses don’t have just 2 more weeks. If you want to close the businesses, pay their damn bills.

Perhaps I’m flip flopping again but the toll I am seeing it take on my business friends is far fkn greater than what covid will do to them health wise. This is dragging on and on with no end in sight.

I hear you buddy, my entrepreneurial minded friends are being absolutely destroyed by the lack of any actual plan by governments from municipal to federal.

The province knows where about 57% of cases come from, admits they have discrete data to show where spread is happening and won’t release the data but is working to release it “in the coming weeks”. The high level is 37% close contact, 17% outbreaks, 3% travel.
Or you can deduce base on what activities are allowed right now vs not allowed and compared to the infection rate.

When this round of lock down started infection rate was 10%.

Then restaurant/bars/gyms are shut. Mall are at low capacity and school continues

Then school ends and no gathering started

    Then school resumed.

    Then personal services resumed.

Now infection rate is 4-5%. Infection rate reduction is quite similar to UK's lockdown and UK had schools closed.

So it's not hard deduce what is causing the spikes and Hinshaw said the infection rate target is 1-2%. It's simple to see why they remove the date. And Kenney is too pissed off about XL and rather spend time to bitch Biden out on air than to care about this anyway.

When did she say that they are targeting 1-2% rate to start easing more restrictions? She has said that we're currently higher than what we were at in the summer, but not that they are targeting that rate again.

Fortunately, no. But did return in Jan and I always see shopper counters at the door of every shop.

Yesteday's update before the 4:30 JK's XL bitchfest. They would like to see that drop to 1-3% and while the current 4-5% is encouraging, it's not enough.

From the hospitalization front, Non-Icu is coming down pretty fast but Icu easing but still pretty flat and not coming down as fast. So I can understand why they want to see 1-3% positivity rate if that's what 4-5% bought them.

EDIT: they didn't tie that to any official policy. Just a comment by Hinshaw. I assume official words will come in today's update.

Walmart in our neck of the woods recently put up heavy steel bars across the doors - prison type.

They know more shit is going down. Same as the ~500 CEOs that bailed in 2019-early 2020.

In a time of crisis and pandemics peoples first thoughts are to rush to the WalMarts and Costcos of the world. I go to my local small grocer for minor items in between hello fresh meals. Stuff is usually a bit more expensive but there's never more than 10 people inside, nor are there stupid one-way floor arrows in aisles to herd human cattle. No one taking a count of people, no one forcing you to bathe in hand-sanitiser, no mask police (pre-mask mandates). Food and liquor sale businesses will never shut down despite any lockdown order, you can bet on that. In-laws own a alcohol sales establishment in a small town of 1000 people and they can't keep up with demand since March. This Christmas was crazy, something like $30k in sales over a few days. Farmers need their fix when harvesting season is over. Want a pandemic-proof source of income, own a liquor store it seems. Even public-service is not guaranteed if the government runs out of cash to pay your salary, which is where we are headed.

That and Walmart has a long history of dealing with looting.

I was pretty happy that the banks gave us a break when this first started, with the 6 month mortgage deferral. Thinking what I do about banks, I would never have guessed they'd ever behave like they had any sympathy for anyone.

Now that we're all having trouble again though I notice they're nowhere to be found. Businesses would have less worries about going bankrupt if the banks would just fuck off for a minute.
spoiler alert: it wasn't sympathy. The banks make money off of deferring loans. It might hit their short term cash flow, but it improves their balance sheet long term. Tricky. They also didn't want to have to report a bunch of defaulting trash and a massive influx of loans into their special loans programs (ie the naughty kids). They decide to defer a loan? Sure Joe Blow wouldn't have been able to make the payment during the six months, but this way Joe isn't making his payment, but the bank gets to keep his account as current.

As for the banks fucking off for a bit - they are also limited on how much they can do. Banks don't just have a big pool of dough that they lend out and if you don't pay them back then the only issue is they get annoyed. Banks also have liabilities. They are simply intermediaries between people who hold capital and people who need capital. You can't simply stop the flow of cash on one side of that equation.

With everyone wearing masks, I'd like the arrows on the floor to fuck off.

Correct assessment. Arrows was before mask mandate. We know better now.

Only if stores will increase air circulation and draw in more fresh air.

They could have installed the bars anytime last year - they know something new is coming.

No restrictions lifted, not timelines given, no metrics to work towards

    “For a little while longer...”
