Dexamethasone for viral pneumonias has been...controversial.

I actually got off the phone with a buddy who is an ER/ICU doc. Sounds like they're actually quite pissed about this study being released before peer review because there is no concrete directive still.
Medcram had an interesting discussion about using corticosteroids prior to peer review publication. Might be worth a watch if you are interested in the topic in general. He mentions that the DM data is published by a gov't funded study, which in this case is more comparable to a drug safety/efficacy trials utilized to get drug approval. They regularly halt these trials and discontinue the placebo if the primary endpoint is met - and of course they do this without having peer review data.

Why different numbers from different outlets? 4/5/6? Sounds like it's all voluntary closures and AHS wasn't involved. Very interesting that Edmonton now outpace Calgary in active cases.

If we had the same number of new cases today, per capita, as Arizona - do you know how many new cases we would have had, today?
    About 1,559...
The last few days Florida, Arizona and I think even Texas are hovering 20x - 50x more new cases than Alberta.

    Mask wearing stats are in.

Instead of worrying about vaccine and cures and positive/negative test that is out of control of 99% of population, this is probably the only thing everyone can do to stop the spread.

Yes, things have been very minor here compared to lots of places, if that trend holds "to the end" then what a blessing that will be. I suspect our vastly lower population density helps a lot. Hard to physically distance yourself when you live in dense areas like Houston.

Is it as simple as that? Isn't a city a city, at some point? We've got two cities with about a million each and dense downtown cores. Those are legit cities. They certainly aren't like Tokyo, but then again, Tokyo isn't getting fisted, Phoenix is.
I think it's something else. Is it as simple as there are that many more unhealthy, obese morons who can't wash their hands after painting a bowl??

Aside - wow, did I ever hate Arizona the one time I went.

    https://www.businessinsider.com/coro...-by-age-2020-6

The flu kills .83% of infected people above age 65, whereas the coronavirus's death rate is 10.4% for infected people from age 65 to 74, 20.8% for the 75-84 group, and 30.1% for people over 85.

Drowning kills 100% of the people who can't swim that jump in the deep end of the pool. The solution is to keep those people out of the pool, not to drain it and close it to everyone else.

I'm trying to find it, but can't. Was there a single day where Alberta recorded 1,500+ new cases? What was our highest, peak new cases day? I don't think it was even 400 and Arizona is easing restrictions.
    Am I wrong?

It's easy to see where the water is. Can you say the same about a highly contagious virus?

Well if I were aware I was in the highest risk categories I would certainly make it my business to have a fairly solid estimation, which seems to now be possible, of where my greatest chances for danger were and try to avoid them.

Instead you have morons like someone I know out here who is significantly immunocompromised and posting about how "not enough restaurants are being as thorough as I want them to be for MY safety and I'm mad as hell about it". No buddy, fuck you. They're meeting basic minimums as established by the Gov't and trying not to go out of business so just don't go to them and go where YOU feel safe. You're vastly less healthy than the majority, is that fair? No. Is that EVERYONE else's cross to bear on your behalf? Also no.

There's a balance. The world can't stay shut down forever regardless of our personal feelings and experiences.

About to get a giant swab rammed in my nose. Not looking forward to it but gotta do what I gotta do. Was recently around someone who is now being tested for Covid. Due diligence and all... can't return to work without a negative result.

I've heard that's horrible. I've also heard there is a different manner of testing now, is that incorrect?

    Also, good luck.

Ah Bill, I don't think that analogy holds up
That's like saying you leave a pool and interact with someone that wasn't at the pool, but by you simply being there in the deep end, then that someone else can potentially drown because you were there
