It’s hilarious to me that there are people out there who still think Covid is a thing.

I mean, it is still a thing and to think its not is just straight up ignorant. We still have to learn to live with it and I think for the most part we are, there is no reason to go full March 2020 on anything and the majority of the population has common sense and handling it just fine. I think the point people in this thread are trying to make is there is still people going out and about while sick regardless of the illness which is just a douche bag selfish move. A cold may not cause many problems for other people but some of these nasty stomach bugs/flu strains/covid could really fuck up some people. I'm on the tail end of covid and even being a peak physical specimen it was not fun to deal with.

You've got a young kid, are they in daycare yet? We've got two in daycare and we've essentially been dealing with everything under the sun since February and its sucked because some people don't give a fuck and kids are gross.

Daycares are the real infectious disease labs

Truth. Daycare through to grade 2 is pretty insane for most kids being exposed to basically every potential disease in the books. That's a lot of fun of fun with a kid that has respiratory issues like one of mine did.

Daycare is just a breeding ground. When we started sending our son there he was constantly getting sick, and that was pre-covid. He's now well into the school system and only sick once in a while.

While Covid is going on, I imagine there must be some serious transmission going on in daycares as a result. And no, I don't view Covid as "just another disease". The death and infection rate pretty much disproves such claims, and the only thing that is keeping it in check are vaccines. And while that's all well and good, I believe interest in regular vaccines to keep Covid in check is already waning which in turn will very possibly produce more significant waves. (At least, that's my thought given my not-fully-educated opinion)

While I have never been particularly concerned for my son's well-being if he were to contract it, he'd be bringing it home to my wife and I and the risk levels rise a bit, despite our vaccines. But the REAL concern is when we travel down to Kamloops and visit family. My mother is compromised, and my father is getting old and has already had part of his lung removed due to cancer. Due to the commonality of non-symptomatic cases, yes, I DO continue to treat this differently than other viruses. And quite frankly, I'm disheartened to see so many who seem to not exactly care anymore. There's no point in living in fear, but this pandemic is not over yet.

You would think the publics attitude towards coming in to work sick like an asshole and getting everyone else sick would have changed because of covid.

But nope. Back to usual jackassery and the covid body isn't even cold yet.

Seems to me the government is toying around with forcing herd immunity.

Seems more like they're just following the numbers. Hospital cases are plummeting, doesn't make sense to just keep arbitrary rules forever. Plus they probably know that most people voluntarily follow that rule anyway, and the ones that don't weren't being convinced to by an unenforceable rule the government made anyway.

Of all the many issues with emergency healthcare in Alberta, the one that drives me craziest is how long it takes an ambulance crew to be released from the hospitals after they arrive. Super inefficient. Feel bad for the paramedics who are caught up in this.

Different rules in Calgary? Wife just had to use an Ambulance a few days ago. Paramedics were gone as soon as they got her in the building to be checked in, then she had to wait 5 hours in the waiting room.
