There is no need, but it was done anyway, so there is a smarter order, because they do have relative importance.

If you're going to do a staged reduction, there's a smart way to do it and a dumb way to do it. They picked a staged reduction, and picked the dumb way to do it. Just like every other time.
Well gov'ts are dumb and full of incompetent people almost exclusively. So the retention of bad policy is unsurprising.

With the provincial government ending its Restriction Exemption Program as of midnight Wednesday, the city's bylaw expired at the same time — and administration won't explore implementing its own program in Calgary.

A council committee voted 10-4 against asking city officials to look into what its own vaccine mandate bylaw would look like on Wednesday afternoon.

Only Mayor Jyoti Gondek and councillors Gian-Carlo Carra, Courtney Walcott and Kourtney Penner voted in favour of the idea.

I bet those same four will support extending the mask bylaw when it comes up in three weeks. Gondek practically keeps Carra in her purse anyway, so that’s at least 2/4 right there

Looks like Edmonton is keeping masks until a certain active case threshold and looking to implement their own version of the REP.

And hopefully kenney passes legislation to quash it, but I doubt it as he left the door open to try to appeal to both sides.

No, he should leave the door wide open, and it's a great move. Let them go down the rabbit hole and spend a few million figuring out how "gubernment can keep people safe".

Local governments who choose to implement additional restrictions may find out exactly how popular those restrictions are.

Isn't that the most logical response. End the masks and passport when cases drop by a large fraction for a consistent period. Something below 10% of current hospitalizations for 2 weeks?

Seems like most of the arguing went to the trucker thread. Just an update on the chart I've been posting.

Added ICU per 100 hospitalizations, because I was trying to see if that was a meaningful thing that told us anything. I don't think it's earthshaking, just confirms what a lot of us have been saying.

I think he's been awesome lately. Said nobody was following the restrictions anyway so what's the point. The Wuhan bat soup comment. The 'aids patient' comments even though that was taken out of context. Relax in restrictions. Not that I wasn't going to vote for his government anyway its just refreshing to see some dgaf and lack of catering to the hand wringers.
