People advocating for smaller class sizes realize that we'd need more buildings and teachers to do that, right? Not something that's going to get solved in ~3 weeks.

Its a nice goal, but not a short term solution to covid risks.
I've seen people advocating for half days or alternating days (Classes are split into A and B and each only attends half the time) but that doesn't really make sense for parents that need to go back to work full time.

I think some in class + online is the best bet. Some students do need structure and in person learning whereas other parents work better with their kids and can do online.

At the least mandatory masks + faceshields for teachers is a step towards the right direction I guess. Depends on enforcement though.

Masks mandatory for Grades 4-12, all students and teachers (minus medical exemptions)

Japan is all about mask wearing, and their cases are steadily climbing..

Having people wear the same mask in and out of every store, and touching their face every time they take it on and off can't be helping things.

Their numbers are now tied to the night districts and the Salaryman drinking culture and eventually brought home to family.

Tokyo has requested that karaoke parlors and establishments serving alcohol close by 10 p.m., effective from Monday through the end of August, to mitigate the spread of the virus.

As a parent of special needs kids, I can say that my kids learn MUCH better in-person vs any online situation.

Personally, we would need to have a real conversation on the amount we are paying for education if kids learning from home has any kind of extended legs.

Same thing for university, there is no way in hell I would pay the same fees to take courses online as I would for in person instruction in dedicated facilities and environments.

Not to mention Japan is incredibly dense and almost everyone uses transit.

A single station, Shibuya, in Japan sees 2.4 million travelers per day ... all of Calgary plus a million extra all go through that station each day.

Yeah my kids did way better when they were in a classroom environment with traditional teaching methods versus any classes they ever had to do online. even when the online course was within the classroom it was not the same.

I don’t feel anyone is doubting that in class > online/remote, however were in different time’s right now, I’d like to see my daughter go back to in class but I know undoubtedly that there will be parents who will knowingly send their kids to school with active symptoms, whether that’s Covid or not doesn’t change the fact that some people out there are just shitty

I think that brings up a valid point. We should all try and yuge so we can physically fight covid.
I saw a youtube vid where anyone who can bench/squat/dead 2 plates for reps is immune.

Except reducing their funding would lead to more ineffective online teaching, which would lead to more reduction, etc. etc. and would snowball.

Trump has another pathetic meltdown on camera. Worth a watch regardless of what your political beliefs are and its only ~3 minutes.

Yahoo News/YouGov coronavirus poll: Number of Americans who plan to get vaccinated falls to 42% — a new low

    https://news.yahoo.com/yahoo-news-yo...162000936.html

The outlook for universal vaccination is clouded by political considerations from both sides: skepticism about medical authority and expertise (more common among Trump supporters), and suspicions (mostly among Democrats) that the administration is cutting corners on safety to rush a vaccine into production before the election.

I find it interesting that lefties/wokes/SJWs/progressives/liberals think they have the moral ground on science:

    1. They turn climate science from a data driven exercise into a movement
    2. They are the worst offenders for anti-vaccination - and now they add "Trump made it" to the pile of anti-vaxxer logic.

Honestly, if I didn't have kids, I'd find humanity's descent rather amusing and well deserved.

I don't think those visuals support your claim. At best, they paint a mixed picture.

One chart is 8 years old, the other is 4-5 years old. A lot has changed in the political landscape since then. I think it's a difficult thing to get any kind of accurate data on.

You think the 4-6% states are are less Democrat today than they were when trump was elected?

It also provides no information on how medical exemptions work. Every state is so different you really can't compare, one may have really easy ways to use excuses to get exempt while others may be more strict. So you could have way more anti-vaxxers in one area that just don't have medical exemptions.
