Border opens up and 2nd wave for us will be nasty.
Our land boarders never closed, all you have to do is say you're driving to Alaska. There are a ridiculous amount of American vacationer's plates in AB and BC right now.

Not to mention that if they've been found to have lied to a border agent, it can be up to 1mil in fines, 3 years prison, and banned from entering Canada again.

Only 7 people got fined in an entire week in Banff according to the last article I read, and the officers are given full discretion whether to even ticket or not. Most of them are in rental cars anyway which will have AB plates and would not be easily identifiable to the RCMP.

The way to do it is make them provide proof of accommodation or residence in Alaska before allowing them to cross the boarder, but that isn't a requirement.

A friend of mine who works for the RCMP drove to Kelowna last week and said the amount of American plates on the highway was insane.

Im just glad the news has stopped telling us we are all racists. Moving back to Covid coverage is a welcome relief, CNN is basically saying 8-10 states will die off if we don’t listen to experts. Quite comical. The best thing we can do is leave the border closed and fix this Alaska travel loop hole. Or just start slashing tires of cars from the US like they did to Alberta plates in BC. There are Alberta plates everywhere here and the resentment seems to be way less hostile. Alberta, sask and Manitoba are essentially the same province, but BC likes to think they are on another level, maybe it’s the mountains.

"Muh freedom". You can see this shit attitude represented everywhere you go, including numerous posters in this thread.

I see it as a demonstration of the new normal: that being contrarian is now as much an identity for people as it is an excuse to be a dickhead.

Notice how it's always the same people that take the predictably contrarian view on these things. When you take the view that these people are actively looking to cause conflict, their actions make a lot more sense. Not just about COVID, or masks, but in life in general.
Are you or an immediate family member part of a high risk group or something?

I haven't been paying too much attention to the mask debate. But are people saying that they won't wear masks simply because they were told they should wear masks? That's really dumb.
No, but that's how he's perceiving it.

My read on on posters in this thread, is that some people choose not to wear masks when they are not required to do so.

lol if you're referring to me, you're off-base. As I have indicated elsewhere in this thread, repeatedly, it's the "fuck off" attitude that too many people have that tipped me off. People are being ridiculous about this mask situation, and basically every other part of COVID, and it's getting old.

My coworkers in Houston are pretty worried. WFH only works for office types, not the millions in that city who work in service type jobs.

Sounds like the hope of summer killing or slowing it isn't materializing.

Both Disney parks in California's opening has be postponed.

US at least will be giving us a glimpse of 2nd wave and what it looks like.

More than a glimpse. Maybe a glimpse into a mental facility with no sinks or toilet paper.
Yesterday in Arizona was the equivalent (per capita) of Alberta getting 4,000+ new cases in one single day. Everyone wrap your mind around what Alberta would do if we got 4,025 new cases in one day. That's 10x-12x more daily cases than Alberta had on our worst day near the end of April... When everything was locked down. Arizona FerrdomErLerrbertee people are walking around assumedly licking each others assholes debating mask use when they are experiencing 11x more new daily cases than Alberta ever did.
    Shit is fucked, yo.

The key is to work for a company that aren't assholes. My employer has been paying people to self quarantine at the first symptom, since March. Lots of people took advantage of it in the begining (before testing was easily accessible), and several were fired for not actually quarantining themselves.

My wife's head office is in Dallas. They've been back at work since May, and are insisting the Calgary office get back in there as well.

Lots of the really hot places are in trouble because no one goes outside much in the middle of summer. People stick to A/C'd places that just recirculates the same stale air. As opposed to here where everyone is outside enjoying the weather and fresh air.
