Rumour right now - but one of my wifes friends who works for the fed govt is saying we are going to have an Italy style lockdown announced tomorrow night.

Unsure if true - but if so - hope everyones stocked up on puzzles and other shit to keep them busy. I just wish it was warm enough to grab my camper and get the fuck out of here.
The rumour came out then somebody quashed it but given what a fucking mess that most recent press conference was I foresee them spinning a decision wheel to see what the next step is sometime tomorrow.

(this hot mess is the press conference I'm referring to)

    Worldometer:

'We apologize for the temporary disservice that you may have experienced. For about 20 minutes, our site showed clearly incorrect data due to a malicious act. We have investigated the issue and we're now implementing protective measures to prevent this from happening again. The other day we got hit with a big DDoS attack. Now this. We'll continue with our daily efforts and we'll not give up.'

Also this will be interesting to see how it tracks the next few days as they start more testingName: 90005435_10220821841483228_439264022102016000_n.jpg

Probably a question for a new thread.
How many of you have modified your habits and staying in..?
Those working in the retail/entertainment sector. Has it been dead..? Im wondering how businesses will survive and how the city will react to collecting business taxes.
Funny thing is, I don't normally eat out a lot to begin with, but I'm considering changing my habits to eat out more to help businesses out, especially locally owned and operated restaurants, which is the opposite of what everyone else seems to be doing.

I wouldnt bank on that plan for long. Expect massive shutdowns and forced closures in the coming days. They're really going to be pushing for keeping people in their homes as much as possible once they have a good number of the people back from out of country - and can close the borders.

CoC declares state of emergency. Biggest thing, buildings are only allowed 50% of fire capacity or 250 people, whatever is less.

If the restaurants etc all close I am gonna have the toughest time. At least my one meal everyday is outside and its gonna take a significant getting used to. But perhaps the motivation I need to get a head start to try and lose weight anyway.

From Nenshi (see you all at the casino?)

The City of Calgary has enacted a State of Local Emergency. This allows CEMA Chief Tom Sampson to make the decisions necessary to help flatten the curve.

We are closing City-owned and operated rec facilities, as well as those operated by our partners, and the Calgary Public Library branches.

We have a maximum gathering size of 250, or half the maximum fire load card occupancy.

This list exempts grocery stores, airports, shopping centres, pharmacies, and casinos.

This may change, but for now we are following the AHS lead.

City services will continue. Calgarians still need power, water, transit, waste management, and other essential services.

We are working with our business community to try and take actions to ensure we limit their disruption.

Clean hands, clear heads, open hearts.

    Hygiene and physical distancing.

Don’t panic, stock up but don’t horde, and remember that we are intentionally overreacting.

Reach out to your community. Seniors, family, neighbours - we have to take care of each other.

When we look back, let’s hope the narrative is that we overreacted.

These are tough decisions. For me personally, it was heartbreaking to close the rec centres and libraries. But ultimately, these good habits keep us collectively safe.

We’ll continue to update you as we take further actions. In the meantime, please watch AHS and Dr. Hinshaw for updates on our healthcare system.

Thank you for doing your part.

    We’ll get through this together.

There is no bylaw. This is the way.

if you look at the chronology of the creation of this thread to where we are... our City, nowhere a port of entry is now in a declared state of emergency.

SMH, a month ago... skiing, going out for brunch, enjoying life and sweating 1st world problems.

Two weeks ago, looking at a new car

A week ago, like all of us, we recognized the potential of this... started raising awareness and doing what we had to (not just stocking TP)... but everyone was "its just a flu" or "wash your hands" or "travel bans are ridiculous, spring break is coming up"

Now... community transmission of this viral pneumonia with a high mortality rate is at our doorstep. I have two young children under 6 and two aging parents... and just so happens contracted the "flu" just prior.

Billionaires holing up and not protecting the human capital that run their organizations, US is in a dire state, our own Prime Minister's wife (likely him as well) infected with Covid

This is a reckoning, and I hope not only the "strong" survive.. but that this is a reset for the world in many ways.

I am trying to stay away from replying to this thread but I think it's time to point something out. I did not read this thread from day 1 but the last 3 pages gave me the feeling, I need to say something especially after this last comment.

I understand how people are worried about this virus (I am too) especially for our family. The real worry here is that we don't really know much about it yet and that it's highly contagious.

But, please, please, please, we cannot conclude that this COVID-19 virus has a high mortality rate. This just freaks people out. I'm sure there has been a discussion here before about this virus vs H1N1. Here's a statistic from a reputable source comparing this virus to the actual statistical number when it's compared to H1N1:

    https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/heal...019-vs-the-flu

    Deaths
COVID-19: Approximately 5,833 deaths reported worldwide; 57 deaths in the U.S., as of Mar. 15, 2020.*

Flu: 291,000 to 646,000 deaths worldwide; 12,000 to 61,000 deaths in the U.S. per year.
At this time, what we know is: it for sure has higher risk (in this case, death) to the geriatric population and people with multiple co-morbidity. But, there are no reported deaths of children ages 0-9 years old (so far). Teens, adults <60 also appear to recover well.

It probably is still early to compare as it's just have been 4 months but let's think positive here.

H1N1 affects ALL age groups, and that's how scary it was in 2009-2010. We all learned from it and that's just how this is going to play again. At least from how we see it, again, a lot of people are able to recover and that's good.

We'll all get thru this; it does for sure suck though that it had to go this far. For now fellas, let's just do our part, self-isolate if you have symptoms and take care of ourselves and our family.
