Being obese is a death sentence even more now

Obesity is major COVID-19 risk factor, says French chief epidemiologist

Trudeau should be enforcing mandatory P90X classes five times a week.

More will not die. It will not be significantly more. Please stop. Even in Quebec, no one under 60 has died from this. And they're incompetent over there. It's why they need so much money from Alberta. They can't take care of themselves.

Are you seriously using edge cases to prove how dangerous it is?

If you don't believe that unleashing this onto the public won't end up in more deaths one way or another, then there really isn't any point in debating, is there?
Alright, kids stay home, parents work. Parents get sick, bring virus to home.

    Wait, what?

Hey here's California back in 2018. That was a really bad flu year.

Any kind of significant spike is dangerous right now, imo. I am not saying I entirely disagree with you - as perhaps this really does end up a herd immunity scenario, but I would really prefer less people dying and drag this out a little longer while a successful treatment is found. If that doesn't appear likely, then I really don't see an end to this so we might as well do what you are suggesting but in a far more controlled, phased approach.
If the R0 is indeed 5.7 as being pushed right now, that puts the herd immunity threshold at 82% (double the flu), which makes the idea of reaching herd immunity and isolating the vulnerable mutually exclusive.

I was going to trade my smoker for the reach around. Not for a Dutch Rudder.

    Question...

So if we find out that it is possible to get reinfected...is there any herd immunity?

Well then the vulnerable are fucked, because making a vaccine for a coronavirus has never worked out.

And if it is 5.7, then the entire states of California and Oregon have long had herd immunity, considering that they're thinking that the virus has been around since Nov 15.

I have been following a virologist on Twitter, the Chinese studies on it are total junk according to him.

I don't see it any different, most of high river commutes to Calgary. If it's in Calgary it's coming here, it's in most small communities already. Bunch out on the FN reserves too. Doesn't change anything...
Well, here is the announcement that it's in the High River hospital - and the old folks portion, at that.
    https://highriveronline.com/local/on...river-hospital

    This is a catastrophe.

Now, that so-called "cluster" of additional cases in the town is serious business because High River is small.

What may not come out is that a certain demographic may have been still attending church, or a similar underground worship gathering. Those folks are married or related to workers at two massive employers in the area. Both are places where you would really, really prefer to keep COVID out. This "cluster" would be an uncomfortably large number anywhere but unfortunately, it's in a small town.

So, as I alluded to, this is very serious and very bad news for High River.

Now THAT I believe. This virus is hard enough to get proper information from so-called honest governments. They didn't do anyone any favors, and I continue to completely distrust their current infection rate especially.

As for this High River thing, that absolutely blows. Not sure where you have been getting your info from, but I hope it isn't anyone too close.

Yep, old news but still important to know that politicians only care about re-election and giving themselves more power:

    https://www.jccf.ca/alberta-governme...wcLHHoNPfjNCcG

The passing of Bill 10 means that, in addition to the already existing powers under the Alberta Public Health Act, any single politician can now also write, create, implement and enforce any new law, without approval or consultation.
These guys need to be canned and a centrist party, like the AB party, needs to come in.

Interesting take on the situation. I hadn't thought of it that way. You're probably right.

I suppose a small town with a locked down hospital in an outbreak similar to the Calgary facility that has already buried 13 residents in 27 days isn't a big deal.
Sounds painless, particularly if it was coupled with an outbreak in the town representing a significant % of the population. I'm sure the locals will respond with calm actions and dignity. The government is also very unlikely to intervene. We can bank on the government taking this very lightly because I haven't noticed much along the lines of government mandated closures, lockdowns or behaviours recently.

Where was that "River" place where the police broke into people's homes to illegally confiscate their firearms during some sort of other emergency thingy? Probably some other place.

No worries. High River is aces.

I liked a lot of the Alberta Party policy, but there is no way I was going to throw away my insignificant vote.

Once enough people get pissed off at turdman in ottawa, and the dumb parties in power in AB - there will be change.

2 term limits for politicians - go in, do your job and dont even think about elections.

Never again, career politicians (like trudeau or kenney). This is exactly what happens - they get greedy with power.

An average person with common sense off the street can do just as good a job, if not significantly better, with the advisers they would have.

Short term pain for long term gain, instead of what we have now.

Hospitals not locked down... That elder care wing is. Was before this announcement because no nonessential visitors.

There's a lot of elder care facilities that are going to be getting heavily affected. Pretty sure there's 6 here in town.

You made a statement about it being a major thing, 2 cases isn't a major thing...
