So, this guy (I assume it's one guy or a small, loose group) decided to post on a Kamloops Facebook forum, telling everyone to rush to the Superstore at 6:30 on Monday without their masks to shop. Says they don't kick them out there, and he wanted to see the amounts grow from tens (last time he tried this call-out) to hundreds as soon as possible, as a form of "protest". Says if a huge amount of people stand together, they cannot be "ignored any longer". His post has been promptly removed already.

Pack a bunch of anti-maskers into a single big room - sounds about as brilliant for them as Fentanyl Friday or Start-a-fire Saturday which I'm hoping comes next.

why would you go to a hospital for any other reason?
When wife used to work in the ER, there would always be van fulls of…..people…..coming in on Saturday mornings for “treatment” aka something to do. Dealing with the general ungrateful garbage of society day in day out was enough to get a RN federal admin job where she doesn’t get assaulted or spit on. This was before the pandemic, I can’t even imagine putting up with that and unvaccinated trash everyday. This free socialist healthcare system needs to collapse.

lol being from Kamloops myself I’m not surprised one bit. I see the odd maskless person, let them test their freedom.

I support anti-mask and anti-vax gathering in large numbers in indoor spaces. Ideally they'd shake hands, hug and kiss to show solidarity. If there's a post-protest orgy so much the better. I'm busy that day, but I support thier rights!

To accomplish that the hospitals will take a big hit. As such we will continue to scapegoat the unvaccinated.
And the hospitals can go ahead and take the hit just like they should have in early 2020. The quicker we deal with this, the better.

You won't catch me at any freedom marches or whatever. But one thing we should all be able to agree upon at this point, is that mask mandates need to go.

I know a few people that I'm hoping continue to practice their freedom to voluntarily wear a mask. Who knew, turns out masks actually do have a use afterall.

So Ontario went from 490 hospitalizations to 726 to 965 in two days. Not a great sign but still hoping its just a backlog of updates from the past week of Christmas non-reporting. Still though, doubling isn't great to see. AB won't report a full update until Tuesday so I guess we'll see good or bad what the new years going to look like then.
It's a little over a week later and Ontario is now at 2,472 hospitalizations. ICU's have gone from about 164 to 338 in 2 weeks. The most shocking was 42 deaths reported yesterday when it was in the single digits 2 weeks ago.

So a week into the year my thoughts:

Omicron is obviously less deadly per case but we're seeing nearly 5x as many cases which is why hospitalizations are still climbing quickly. I don't think restrictions will do much at this point, compliance will be low and with how easily it spreads I don't think we'll see any benefit. Know lots of people that caught it and nearly all them know who they got it from, nearly all from social gatherings at home with someone that got sick a couple days after. Hospitals are probably going to be fucked but hopefully this wave burns out faster than delta so we don't end up as bad of shape.

My main concern at this point really is Omicron seems to be affecting kids moreso. Hospitalizations in the younger age ranges is much higher this wave, and its not helping they aren't near as well vaccinated. I feel bad for a lot of the kids / parents out there mostly. Rest of us (vaccinated) will likely catch it and pass and it'll move on.

Parents, if you had the choice between home schooling your offspring or exposing them to omicron, what's your choice?

Seems like some provincial governments don't care about raising kids when they can just import adults from other countries.

Everyone is sniffling and coughing on zoom calls. Everyone is getting this.

Well the bright side is that if you are positive, you got 6 months of international travel without needing a PCR test on return. It's going to be the best summer ever.
