The only difference is the attitude between volunteering, and being forced. Same user experience, but different mentalities.

Speaking of people being forced to comply with things, Quebec is thinking about instituting roadblocks to stop non-essential travel “during spring break”. Apparently a concern is that the police are too tied up with enforcing curfew that they might have recruit “other types of professionals”, whatever that means, to man checkpoints

This is excellent. Quebec offers nothing of value to the rest of the country. They can turn into a police state for all I care.

Sounds like the Isolation hotels are going as well as anybody expected when the government runs anything.
I really wish I had the time and resources to go challenge this system. It's completely illegal and violates a number of charter rights. Like what do they do when some person coming back just says "No, I'm not going anywhere with you" If they continue to insist then ask them "Am I under arrest for a crime?". They either have to say no, in which case you can just leave. Or they say Yes, and then they have to tell you which crime that is. Obviously they can't tell you a crime since you're not disobeying any laws, at which point I would say "Ok then take me to the station and let me call my lawyer".

After filming all this with a cell phone, and if you still manage to get forcibly taken against your will, then that's a good lawsuit against the federal government when this all blows over.

I sincerely hope you get a chance to test your theory.

I'd like to follow the story for sure, even more so than the lane splitting challenge

A single person won’t get away with this, you need a chartered airliner full of passengers to try this. Let’s see them handle 300 people, not 3.

What have constitution lawyers said about all this?

They say it's illegal, and a group of them sent a letter to the government saying it better stop immediately or they would be pursuing legal avenues. The Feds backed off and said this program was on hold until Feb 14th now. Assumedly they want to find a legal loophole to allow them to do this.

I never said I would fight with anyone. If they want to illegally arrest me and force me to some detention area in a hotel, that's their call. You can sue afterwards.

There is no martial law in place that makes public health order circumvent citizens basic rights and freedoms. Regardless, health orders request for you to isolate. Which you can do at home. There is nothing about isolation that requires them to kidnap you and hold you against your will somewhere.

The province is finally accessing the money available for critical support workers with the 3:1 federal matching program:]
Sounds like the union hates this. Can't figure out why.
"Nothing like driving a wedge into the working-class folks that are out there trying to save lives every day," said a frustrated Mike Parker on Thursday. The president of the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) says the union was inundated with phone calls and emails from confused members.

The Alberta government gave some examples of health-care professionals who would qualify for the benefit, including nurses, respiratory therapists, and health facility cleaning and food services staff.

However, the HSAA represents workers in 240 professions, Parker said. He has no idea which ones will be eligible.

Parker said he is upset the provincial government didn't consult with labour groups before deciding which professions should qualify.

I think I heard the Coles Notes (very roughly speaking) is that workers who make >$25/hr are not eligible.

Only employees with private companies. Public employees don't appear to be subject to a wage limit...qualification only appears to be based on profession and meeting the minimum number of worked hours.

I would think this type of wealth transfer is exactly what this country needs to "build back better" isn't it? free money for low income earners, paid for by taxes of higher income earners. I don't see the issue.
