Liberal bill on coronavirus would give feds power to spend, tax without parliamentary approval. Sneaky bastards.

    https://www.theglobeandmail.com/poli...tax-and-spend/

The Liberal government announced late Monday that it has agreed to change draft legislation that proposed to grant itself wide-reaching new powers to tax and spend without parliamentary approval until Dec. 31, 2021, through an emergency spending bill.
    ...
But a draft version of the bill goes well beyond those measures and includes provisions that would give the minority government the power to act unilaterally for 21 months.

@phreezee The opposition already slapped them into place on this and they've backtracked is my understanding at present. I can't even imagine they havoc these fucks would wreak if given unfettered spending and taxation power. How arrogant.

I’ve always supported the working class not sitting at home and getting back to work, for their own financial well being. Self-isolation should be mandatory for those most at risk until either masks or a vaccine is available. IMO that death rate for the youngins is a justifiable risk to take considering all the other things that can kill you. Before you all jump on me, the majority under 50 that are infected can recover at home. We still need a balance to keep people working and isolating the most venerable. EI won’t cover your mortgage and CC bills forever.

As is now, maximum $573 a week EI and $900 every two weeks up to fifteen weeks for unemployed ECB. Pretty much the same.

New York cases doubling every 3 days. Won't be long before they run out of ventilators.

I think that just means EI doesn't go very far for a lot of people, especially if they're single income. Scary times afoot at the Circle K.
