Took my wife to Airdrie emergency this morning for a possible broken toe...6am, no other patients there, came back to pick her up around 8am, still hardly anyone there. Makes you wonder... are we truly flattening the curve or is this just a big hoax. Really seems like the majority of people dying are in the seniors homes...

Plus I heard those seniors deserved it.

There is a call out to people to come to hospital if they are really sick. A lot of people are avoiding hospital due to COVID.

They've instructed people with COVID symptoms NOT to go into clinics / ER themselves but rather to call 811 or 911 if its an emergency and make arrangements through there so that you don't expose people.

Less people are hurting themselves because they're doing less activities plus lots of people are avoiding the hospitals because of the outbreak so those with more minor things are likely just avoiding going.

You generally don’t need to go to ER for a broken toe either.

There is no management for a broken toe that you can’t do from home with some pain killers and time. The only exception is if the fracture is open (you see bone sticking out), or there is nail bed injury which can result in an unrecognized open injury.

The only thing that would get me into an ER now is if I was slipping out of consciousness. Mend them bones at home, nothing else to do.

We need, need, need population level testing. The daily updates on "cases" is becoming less and less important.

I think when we get to widespread serology testing on the population (not on symptomatic patients), there will be a lot of shock regarding how common this thing is.

As USS Roosevelt has taught us, 0 social distancing for 1 month = 12% sailor got infected. 60% of those 12% are asymptomatic and 1 death. So young people will still die from this, just at 0.1% instead of 0.4%.
Death from the USS tin can was a 41 year old, hardly young but not old either. They also didn't disclose whether he had other conditions, or smoked, but rather he died from complications of 'vids19. Either way not everyone who deploys is 100% fit and healthy like the military leads you to believe.

The problem with herd immunity is the old/weak/sick are being cared for by the younger people. So basically we are now putting a price tag on grandma/pa's life.
Which is no different of a problem than we currently have while trying to maintain this lockdown. Young people still care for the old under our current measures.

And we lose a huge percentage of grandma/pa's every single flu season. Why is everyone suddenly acting like they care about them now?

Of course young people will still die, but as mentioned I wasn't going to focus on anecdotes. And young people die every single day already in much higher numbers, from perfectly preventable issues. Nobody bats an eye. One sure fact of life, is death.

Also, we aren't discussing an option of 0 social distancing.

I'm starting to remember why everyone thought Misterman was a returned banned member, and think we were all correct about it.
We both showed up here within a few months of each other and I think I recall being accused of being him and maybe both of us accused of being someone else! LoL! I think it's just the regular bullshit new forum members have to go through on any forum.
I came in guns hot because I think it's self destructive for forums to shit all over new members. The next step is "yo, so ded up in hurr" threads.
People weren't very mean to me for very long.

It was said awhile ago that there would be a time that we will look back and think the whole thing was an over-reaction. That means we did a good job and not being dismissive.

The US might be an example of returning to normal too quickly. Hopefully not but they're looking a bit overzealous...

The crisis is SO BAD that AHS is temporarily closing testing labs/clinics all around the province. Jesus what a joke.

    https://www.calgarylabservices.com/w...s03162001.aspx

Also, AHS wait times around Calgary ERs is always below an hour most of the time. No one there anymore for sniffles and minor boo-boos.

These are some kind of interesting stats to see laid out... I don't think surprising, but at least it is broken down in digestible language.

That general population bar has me very confused about what that graph is actually measuring.
