The GST credit thing. I haven't gotten any GST rebates for years. Did you not get them before but now with this new thing you are getting a GST rebate?
I've gotten GST off and on for quite a few years now. The last few years I have not. This one time rebate is not related to GST as I was not eligible for the 2019 year if I remember.

Oh ok thanks. I guess I'll log in an see. I thought it was tied to the GST credit.

You guys still get GST cheques?

I have a CRA account, but I haven't given them my banking info. I never get tax returns (no kids) and usually I owe a little bit every year. Considering I usually owe them and not the other way around I'd rather not give them my banking info.

Funny how people who put the most demand on our system (families with kids) get the biggest tax refunds etc. Interesting system we have here...
The CRA doesn’t just take money out of your accounts when you owe, it just allows them to deposit refunds to you automatically instead of mailing you a check lol.

If you owe you still have to actually pay your taxes yourself.

If the CRA wants access to your accounts, they will get it. All you are providing them is direct deposit instructions.

I find my company payroll isn’t perfect, I am entitled to a refund at least as often as I owe. There are other deductions other than childcare lol.

Yes I know, I just don't like the idea of them having my banking info if things change lol.

And if people who didn't have kids weren't subsidizing those that do through higher taxes we'd be able to invest and save more which would fundamentally help the economy more than a bit of consumer spending.
Most people have kids. Tax credits are just vote buying, by not offering them to people without kids they are just being efficient with their vote buying.

True on both points. I guess if things got bad enough here that government would be raiding private bank accounts (Cyprus 2013) it wouldn't really matter.

Laws were just passed in Canada that allow the government to do exactly this - nationalize the banks and claim assets (as well as debt). Definitely a good time to have money in other investment vehicles.

I can't for the life of me understand how opposition let that pass.

30 year old baseball coach passed away. No underlying health conditions and seemed in relatively good shape.

Can we stop with the 'obese/sick people just need to stay inside' BS now?
Nope. This virus is killing off old peoples and fatties in swift fashion yet you cherry pick a very rare case and label it as “healthy” people die too. Well no shit, people can randomly die from the flu too, of all ages.

You pay your taxes from your account ... clearly they already have that info. Even if you mail them a cheque they still have info on what account it was drawn from.

And aside from all that ... pretty sure they can just see what accounts you have registered anyways.

Whats strange is that even with my limited google FU, I cant find anything about this quickly/easily online - im using 'nationalization' as a key word along with 2020 and canada, banks.

Keeping it on the down low? wtf

Was that snuck into the emergency stimulus bill they just passed?

I mail them a cheque from an account I use JUST for tax purposes. Not my regular income account. I know it's probably futile, but I still feel better doing it that way.

They already raided by printing money.

Those numbers in your bank accounts is just an illusion.

    A few key benefits:
    - instant access to all previous notice of assessments instead of keeping the paper copies they mail you
    - find out the exact date your return was assessed and when you will get a refund
    - find out RRSP/TFSA limits
    - find out GST / child credit payments
    - find all your T-slips
    - new feature as of 2 years ago - your tax software can automatically pull all your t slip info from your My CRA instead of typing in all the numbers from each box separately
    - you can see if you have any uncashed cheques

100% worth it. The access code thing is not bad, it's just to verify that it's you and not someone trying to steal your identity
    Accountants are soooooooo inexpensive though.

backlog of 4500+ swap yield 117 case or 2.6%.

This is higher than 1% positive during testing in week 1.

Given I have no idea criteria of testing, not sure if that's a good increase or bad increase.

Overall positive rate is 1.6%. Also higher than week 1.

I hope we can strike a balance rather than the most extreme of the extreme measures, but we have to deal with what is in our face at the moment.
Careful now. You're risking being called a retard in a passive aggressive manner by a ferret with no tenable solutions.
