Another week gone by and I see a lot of people still pretending covid is a big issue here. Nothing new. Wife was already spiraling before this new set of shit show rules, hoping I don't come back from work in a week to find a murder suicide at my house. Oh well though, her and my son aren't important anyways. Not when we have a few seniors to protect for a few extra months of life.

HR directed me to get tested. Last time I worked with the positive person was 4 days ago
No point in getting tested if you have to isolate for 14 days regardless.

    Unless your company requests it
    I think that's a good reason.

Jordan said it best on FB, just put your house on your market and just do a showing to your parents. Much less paper work than a divorce.
Maybe they’ll even make an offer. Who knows?

Who’s the area manager that I have to complain to about the anti mask protest last night? Traffic sucked hard around DT.

Kenney privatizing healthcare should’ve been a thing.

Yep saw some religious losers downtown loving Jesus, not loving distancing.
Picked up remaining items from office and the mall area was packed way more packed than any other year.

Not like most of us needed another reason to avoid the virus, but it just goes to show that we are far from knowing all the potential long-term outcomes for those who get it.

'“The inability to smell is actually associated with other neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia, Parkinson’s Disease and multiple sclerosis,” said Teresa Liu-Ambrose, director of the Aging, Mobility, and Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory at the University of British Columbia.

“I think the best I understand the potential impact of COVID-19 on the brain, I would describe it almost as an accelerated aging process,” said Liu-Ambrose, whose team is aiming to assess approximately 1,000 people, some with and without the virus.'

So how do you guys think enforcement is going to work on Christmas now that $1000 tickets are on the table? At least half the city is going to have a YOLO family get-together, and most people probably won't even bother to park down the block or whatever. Can they still ticket you via license plate if you don't answer your door despite having an obvious gathering? Seems like there would be lots of plausible deniability with that though (i.e. just storing your car there).

We're not going anywhere for Christmas but knowing that at least 50% of people are going to anyway, I can see how it would make people want to just do it anyway. Also, some churches have capacity for several thousand people, so if ~1000 strangers are allowed to gather indoors for what is perhaps the easiest imaginable thing to accomplish online via Zoom or whatever (a sermon), I am not sure how the city can expect the non-religious to be ok with the rules being selectively applied to them. That will probably make people want to break the rules just out of spite.

We decided we aren’t going to risk going to BC for Christmas, just staying home now and being responsible. I’m already starting to struggle mentally not seeing any family or friends and having to take time off work on top.

Can I ask, what risk in BC are you referring to? Do they have 1000$ fines for speakeasy gatherings?

Going to see the in-laws for a few days over Christmas, still keeping under the max 5 person prov regulation. If this means some old folk will die somewhere because of our visit, well tough luck I guess. Nature probably hates you. Likely much safer than going to get groceries with semi-packed stores with unknown people hauling 3-4 kids behind them, touching everything then their faces.

Risk to his red plate car.

Or, you know, not risking spreading the virus.

Both, they aren’t recommending interprovincial travel and neither is Alberta. We (gf and I) planned to stay in a AirBnB and ski a few days over Christmas. Even ignoring the recommendations and risk of having my car vandalized I don’t feel very excited.

"5 person regulation" is out the window if you are entering or staying at someone else's house who is not part of your household. You're violating the regulation, so own it. You sound like a smoker who says, "yeah, but I eat well and work out, so it's not unhealthy".

I think the rule in Saskatchewan is that if you pass a timmies on the way, you are legally obligated to bring at least two double doubles and a honey dip. Although I don't think that law is new.

Since nobody else touched on it @Misterman - if you're really worried - there are programs and services to help. Be proactive not reactive.

Hope all works out and everyone gets the mental health help they need. But please do take forward steps to create a solution.

This is a year where it's hard to find things to look forward to. If you are struggling, be kind to yourself, know that difficulty is not weakness, and reach out.
