Goddamn coach of my son's hockey team announced last night he has tested positive. Days after an assistant coach also tested positive.

This weekend was packed with close contact situations with him and my kid, as well as myself and the rest of the team for that matter.

My wife and I both caught it before and we're both vaxxed so I'm not freaked out, but not keen on the waiting game we're going to be playing for the next week or two.

The benefit of masks is not known at this time. But we do know it is some non-trivial amount more than zero.

We also know that the cost of mask use is, essentially, zero.

So the cost:benefit of mask use is approaching infinity. I'll take that every time. And every time I see someone without a mask, I think they are stupid.

Yeah, he is. Which is probably why he seemed perfectly fine the day prior and didn't sound all that concerned when he let us know. His two kids tested positive 2 weeks ago, and he tested negative. Not sure if it was just a slow reaction or maybe he did avoid it then, but coincidentally picked it up recently. Not sure.

It just sucks because now because even though the government sources say life is business as usual as a close contact, I need to ensure we are all extra careful around others for the next couple of weeks - and if we get the slightest symptom, we will need to stay home due to the increased risk.

Sucks for my son with his schooling and hockey and my wife too, who would have to stay home from her job since she does in-home health care for AHS. For myself, I can work from home to some degree, but I really I can't lead my team properly without being in the office so if it came to that, it'd be a struggle.

Here's hoping we dodge the bullet(s).

I have to admit - I let my guard down. He went to shake my hand and I literally said "Are you sure we're supposed to be doing that?" but did it anyway, because it's just rude to deny a handshake.

The situation is fluid and no problems so far I must like to live dangerously or something.

I'm sure legally it's vetted. This is just noise and waste of money.

We have just drop the mandatory vaccination bomb on employees this week. If we are doing it, then there's almost 0 loopholes left. Now trying to get vax proof from our contractors and suppliers in order to keep their business is gonna be fun.
