There have been hundreds of variants. I have no idea why these ones keep getting highlighted - oh wait, I do, it's FEAR.
    Fear sells.

Its how the media makes money. Fear, division, doubt, drama - How to hook the majority of humans to your content.

I'm okay with masks for another month or so but if we keep hmm'ing and haw'ing over new variants, we are going to be hiding inside our houses for a long time to come.
    Simpsons did it.

Thought the mandate is still indoor only.

At this point I don't think mask will come off some people. I have seen tons of masked at outdoor parks still.

Indoor public spaces. Same rules as last august before the provinces rule comes in

Couldn't they just change from mask mandate to mask recommended like Texas and make everyone happy? Or is that just asking for too much these days?

All the vlogs I see from Texas last few months, there are still at least 1/4 people masked up after the mandate came down.
Exactly. Wear one if you want to or if you think you might have something but for everyone else healthy, ditch it. I didn't even know @ExtraSlow was ExtraSlow because of the mask and we sat together and rubbed thighs for an hour at Bubblemania lol

I see no issue with people continuing to wear masks, if anyone has a problem with it then get over it

How does someone else wearing a mask impact you after the mandate is lifted?

The pandemic is far from over, and you’ll see it rear its ugly head again in the fall. A couple of months ago I figured that with a good vaccination drive, things will come back to some kind of a “normal”, but I just don’t see that happening anymore. I hope I'm wrong.

A lot of people have found comfort in the pandemic. A lot of people have been paid to basically do nothing in the pandemic. A lot of people have been scared shitless by a years’ worth of bombardment from the media. All of this doesn’t just go away…

Interesting. What are the demographics of the people who found comfort and scared shitless? Everyone I talk to is ready to live life again.

I'm curious to see what happens after the stampede with the province apparently going full YOLO on July 1 despite the delta variant, etc.

If people just wore masks when they were sick as a courtesy like other countries do, I suspect we would have far less to worry about even during normal flu season. That will never happen in a million years in North America though haha.

Re: Work - I think there are some people coasting by but productivity has been way up in some sectors. A good friend of mine works for RBC and he told me productivity was up so much during the pandemic his team (mortgages) are being told they can work from home indefinitely now if they want. Most studies I've read, both pre and post pandemic, show people are both happier and more productive working at home. Of course some jobs simply can't be done at home but many certainly can. There will always be people trying to game the system but those same people are probably not doing much work in the office either. For me personally I know I work longer and am more productive at home, but I also know some people who can't wait to get back to the office (mostly those with kids).

That won't stop some people from getting in your face about it. They're doing that even when masks are mandatory.

Only from the sense of WFH perspective. I literally just have a co-worker saying that dealing with VPN issues is better than coming back to the office.

Some teams or companies are more productive than ever with WFH. I personally can't do WFH long-term, and I'm happy to be back in the office most of the time.

I have heard CPS's IT has voted to WFH forever, 2nd hand info tho. After 14 months, for IT, there are definitely pros and cons. I don't think WFH will work out that great for newly onboarded staff. WFH worked as well as it did because most of us have like years of mingling behind us and already got used to each other.

They voted eh? That’s how it works?

Where do I vote to double my salary?

When you start a union of course. Don't just double it though, make sure you bring the company to the brink of financial collapse and then complain about how unfair management are being to you. After that, you just wait for the federal government to bail them out of bankruptcy.

I only know of a couple of companies that have actually asked their employees anonymously, but in those cases over 90% of their staff said they at least want the ability to WFH either part time or all the time. The people at my company who have ~1hr commutes each way seem to want it the most, which isn't too hard to believe haha. Depends on your role but there aren't many disadvantages for either party - many people seem to be more productive, fewer meetings (most meetings could be easily replaced by an email in my experience), no commute (1-2hr saved every day for a lot of folks), less stress, fewer sick days, see your family more, company can save millions on parking & office space, etc. The companies run by older guys with the mentality of "if you aren't in the office you aren't working" seem to be the ones being forced back the instant the WFH order was lifted. It varies so much from person to person though that I think it would be great to see more options because happier employees are better employees. The people that view WFH as a vacation probably have their days numbered anyway.
