If my kids were older and could learn independently then I would definetly put them in a hub or keep at home.

I scoffed at the idea of more online / hub learning in the other COVID thread, however...given the lack of details for the reopening, class sizes, plans and conversations I personally had with teachers at my kids school (McKenzie Lake) we opted for the online hub. Apparently with 21,000 other CBE kids (approx 16%)
Full disclosure: my oldest was going into grade 3, she did fine with the online learning earlier on this year, my wife works from home and we have to ability to do this. Not everyone has that privilege, I get that.

Got an email this morning that mentioned the above plus has all these videos cbe has produced:

If anyone is interested this is the elementary video.

    CBE Elementary School Re-Entry Video
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtWo...ature=youtu.be

The first point of the video is that all parents should go through this questionaire with kids everyday before school which doesnt have to be signed or submitted to school. I am pretty sure that is quickly not going to be followed. And given how subjective kids are to any questions its hard to even gauge answers.

Lunchtime sounds interesting. Staggered lunch breaks and seperated areas for different cohorts, presuming class cohorts.

How timely given that the deadline for Hub enrolment was 2 days ago.

We have the option to return to in-class setting in Feb 2021, just decided to let others be the guinea pigs for this experiment. If the numbers are fine I have no problem sending her back to school. I am hopeful, but doubtful, in CBE’s precautions. The fact that 2 positive COVID cases and they shut down the entire school makes me think the in-class option could prove to be more interruptive to their learning than the online option, if you kid is okay with online learning.

I personally hope most parents keep their kids home so mine have an easier time at school.

Only 2 cases? So about 2 weeks before the whole thing becomes irrelevant anyways. I hope no one is making work plans based on the idea of kids being in school from October on

Are these the self test strips Buster keeps talking about? FDA just approved a saliva test for use today.

Nope, these are molecular tests attempting to determine the presence of viral RNA. The barrier here will be costs and machines but it will be relatively sensitive still.

The test strips use antigens instead.

And with that it seems that classroom size is no longer an issue. When will someone question how many teachers are actually required to administer a high quality online education?

This is why the US is getting hit hard, over 70% of the population is considered obese.

Coronavirus: Obesity 'increases risks from Covid-19'
    https://www.bbc.com/news/health-53921141

They also warn a vaccine against coronavirus could be less effective in obese people.
This is based on the fact that flu vaccines don't work as well in those with a body mass index (BMI) of over 30.
Vaccine=less of an immunity if you are obese. Always look after yourself.

To be fair, BMI over 30 isn't limited to obesity (coming in hot at a balmy 33.2 today). Why do they even use that useless index?

    But America fat tho.

None of this seems right. It's all because they won't wear masks...............

As of yesterday I can tell you that a random K-6 school in suburbia had 5% of it's population signed up for online. I suspect the percentages go up as the ages do.
Well this escalated quickly...at the same school that was 5% on Monday is now 15% as of this morning. Also, the CBE's "deadline" for signing up for online was bullshit, they've left it turned on and it will stay like that until at least the 31st.

Hasn’t the official number always been 15%?

I think this is great, education should be way way cheaper now that we don’t have to bundle childcare services into it for 15% of students.

Another study that's corroborating what common sense says. Masks and lockdowns don't really prevent spread when used later into the pandemic. There may still be mask use benefits in regards to viral loading and whatnot. But based on what I read, it appears the majority of mask Nazis still seem to think that mask use is for the purpose of eradicating the virus.
