Positivity rate isn't really that useful of a statistic. 10% isn't great. But it's not an unbiased sample of the population, ya know? R value and new cases per day is probably more relevant.
Positivity rate removes the # of tests done bias.
At 10% still it tells me less people got tested on weekend because it was a nice weathered weekend.

New cases give a precursor to future positivity rates when you combine with R value.

Isn’t R value based on active cases? Meaning the number of tests performed greatly affects that value anyways?

How’s the testing situation right now? Are we still booking 3 days away? If so neither R value nor case numbers is a representation of anything as it’s purely limited by testing capacity. Which means % positive is still the proper metric to follow, along with the delayed hospitalization and ICU.

I don't think testing capacity is limiting

Anecdotal evidence is best evidence. And I can say the drive through testing on 32nd is much less busy last few days.

    so the closures.. work

now the question is, does the government rush back to open things up or stay status quo including schools
Well the vaccines work. But the government is trying to take credit for that by inaccurately saying it's due to closures/restrictions/lockdowns(whatever your preferred descriptive word is). Interesting how the closures suddenly having such a drastic effect, coincides exactly with hitting 40% vaccinations.

LOL! Holy fuck that is something else. That video on there makes it seem like we are going backwards. Makes it seem like a worse summer 2021 than 2020 even after the vaccines.

God damn that article is nuts. People really don't give a fuck about the proper numbers. Totally stuck on fear island with this shit.

It's almost like the media is scared they won't have anything to talk about once this shit-show is over. They'll have to invent something else for the masses to be afraid of. The bucket of fucks-to-give is empty my friends.

Just goes to show how stupid your average person is and how easily persuaded they are by media.

Looking at Sunday vs Sunday numbers as well as the rolling 7 day average helps make a better comparison. We are down substantially (1800 two Sundays ago to 900 now) so it's not just a weekend effect. Our 7 day average has plummeted as well as we've had 10 days of decreases over the prior week's numbers.

AB's 7 day average went from a peak of 2050 cases per day on May 6th down to 1300 cases per day now. Any way to chalk it up a 35% decrease in ten days is massive.

So you're saying constant bombardment of negative and fear based news (media) affects peoples view on reality?

    Shocking.

Something I learned from this pandemic.

I never quite knew how important bingo halls were to government policy.

Government policy #1, always placate seniors first. They vote more often.

There's no cribbage halls that a politician can stand in front of without having to deal with seniors one on one.

That's Sask's opening plan. They have 2 months to figure that phase 3 out.

I think it's sensible at 70%. It's definitely reachable. Kenney is supposed to talk about this in today's update. He already hinted what kind of Stampede we can have is based on vaccination rate.

Since Sask's plan got a lot of positive coverage, sounds like it's smart to follow or adopt most of it.
