I think most people hate FB, but there is no widely accepted alternative that pretty much everyone has that can be used for event planning, etc. I basically only log in when I get invited to something or need to make an event of my own...so pretty rarely.

Also, the Marketplaces are somewhat useful - people LOVE overpaying for stuff on there, much better than Kijiji in my experience.

We’ve given up on fb for events... way better response with something like evite... plus just add via phone number or email. Great attendance at the last party! Night and day vs fb

Any time you need to talk to them or update them though (i.e. a prowler in the area or something), would you rather fire off a quick text which reaches them all at once or go door-to-door telling all of them? I guess that's the difference. Presumably the people participating in this already have met in person and this is just a convenient way to give/receive updates, share concerns, etc.
Haha, a "prowler"? You mean someone who knows nobody locks thier doors? Yeah, shooting a message in the community group isn't going to do anything.

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

I don't need an app to know people check car door handles daily down my street.

I was thinking more car door handle checkers haha, but your example works too. Or a quick heads up about a solicitor so people know to ignore their doorbell.

This sounds more annoying than someone on my doorstep.
