I live a block away from that debacle and never use 14th ave for that reason. However, I needed to go to Aspen Landing the other day during the afternoon rush and was in that very spot. The traffic stopped for me even though I had a stop sign. My bet is Webber has told parents to yield to the neighborhood to reduce complaints.

We are probably moving. Looking at St Andrew's heights, West Hillhurst, University Heights, Parkdale, Briar Hill. Prices are dropping fast. Mostly to get closer to school for the kids. Closer to the airport is a bonus. I hope that one of the parents in that line will buy our house. haha.

From Aspen, I have started going down Sarcee Tr to 16th, Past Market, through Charleswood and onto JLB / McKnight. Depending on the time of day, going through DT is the fastest.

When the ring road goes in, I think it will be better. But there is a fuckload of people moving onto the hill. Truman is building a fucking apartment over by Mercato. @Gage ; is moving up here too.

I consider where I live in to be "Aspenhood." I live in a shack compared to the houses east of 85th.
I have a nice corner lot for sale in Parkdale. I also have a lot in St Andrew Heights, of course you will pay a whole lot more for a good lot there haha.

I also know of a view lot in Briar Hill for sale thats not on market.

The biggest issue with those areas is the constant drone from the traffic on Crowchild, its crazy noisy.

As for the East side of Aspen, most of the big homes are just that, big homes. Half the homes on Aspen Heights never put piles in on all that backfill dirt and the homes are sinking.

People are so fooled by a big house, most of them are just that, a big house, the large majority of them are so basic inside, its sad.

Never judge a book by its cover.

It's 20 mins from Aspen to DT mid-day with zero traffic - that is quite far IMO, especially considering the traffic that develops around Sarcee/Bow Trails.

For comparison, that's only 3 minutes faster than an Auburn Bay commute downtown at the same time of day. According to google maps anyway.

My commute right now is a 6 min drive (bit longer going home), but it can always be shorter.

If you go to Banff every weekend, Aspen has its perks.

Pfff, you must drive like a grandma.

West Side is the best side.

Not aspen, but close, and its 22 minutes from door to desk for me as long as I leave before 7:30. Whats Auburn bay at 7;15 downtown.
No idea, I will have to check google next time I am up that early haha. If you leave early or late enough from anywhere it pretty much takes traffic out of the equation.

Most of my friends live in Auburn and they tell me it's under 30 min on Stony into DT - they leave pretty early too though. Going home, it's definitely longer unless you leave pretty late.

    I don't really consider 7:15 early haha

Was in the office by 6 am yesterday and it was a 15 minute door to desk trek.

I was going to say. I've done my door to my parking lot in 12 minutes downtown. You just have to be in the correct lane as you move down bow trail.

That's fast but too early for me! I moved inner city because I am about as far from a morning person as you can get and I need my sleep haha.

If you're getting to work by 6AM though it doesn't really matter where you live in Calgary, you probably aren't going to break 20-25mins even from the furthest neighborhoods.

Totally agreed. Was at my in-laws place in Thorncliffe and had to drive to the furthest corner of Aspen around 4PM on a normal Thursday and it took me 50 mins each way. Mind you this was obviously rush hour and about a year ago so not sure if anything changed but there is no chance in hell i would consider "easy access to inner city" as a selling point of Aspen. Of course it does have it's own set of unique benefits especially if you take off to the mountains often.
    Thorncliffe is inner city?

I think it’s technically just outside the limit

If you are going by RC designation then confederation creek is basically the limit just south of McKnight.

What I'm learning is that accessing downtown is a cakewalk from anywhere in the city! This is good to know!

No idea what RC stands for, but I have always understood the northern limit to be 32nd ave. With inner city defined as Calgary city limits as at 1961.

Thorncliffe is actually a fair bit further north than that.

I would say the south is by far the worst.

well they live right off of mcknight and centre, and it's a 2-4 minute drive depending on lights/traffic down to 32nd which is apparently the official inner city limit so close enough for this comparison in my books.

you guys got me curious now so i found this map here from the CoC:
    http://www.calgary.ca/PDA/pd/Documen...n/mdp-maps.pdf

Looks like the northern limit is indeed 32nd.

Either way this comparison is pretty silly/arbitrary anyways as technically both forest lawn and west bowness are considered inner city, but it would take you quite a while to get to / from those communities.

Hmm, i didn't realize Ogden, Bowness and Forest Lawn are all considered "Inner-city"

Yeah, that map seems kind of odd... I generally think of inner city as north of Glenmore, South of 32nd, east of Sarcee and west of... Deerfoot I guess.

Edit - CREB seems to agree, with some exceptions like Lakeview (south of Glenmore) and Montgomery / Bowness (west of Sarcee)...

Back to Webber Academy, inquiring minds want to know - because a good chunk of beyond's member makeup is based upon showing up the Joneses and being haughtier than most others, there has got to be at least a few beyond members whose kids go to Webber. Fess up folks.

Sounds like a terrible place to live. You should move to a community that's better designed. I hear traffic is less of an issue in Vista Heights.

Have to ask is that a one of road in and out joke? Or are you shitting on my 'hood? Lol

The only neighborhoods I legitimately dislike are ones I can't afford. You can rank your own 'hood however you see fit based on that.

I didn’t think in a million years we’d be able to swing briar/west hillhurst, but boomers are finally starting to realize their time is more valuable than lost equity, so the deals are out there.

I commute DT from Auburn bay daily around that time, I am consistently between 25-35 mins to bow valley square
