I think most schools are very busy in the morning to drop off kids? It takes me ~ 10 min to drop off my kids in the morning, but off peak hour, is only 2 min drive to their school.

Off peak is 2 minute drive, why aren't they walking? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I find this particularly interesting because the local elementry, junior high and senior high schools my kids attended were all 2 minute drive away and all were less than a 10 minute walk away.

I have this debate constantly with my wife... My resolve is strong and I intend on triumphing in the end. The pinch point at Elbow and Sifton during the evening rush hour would likely negate a move south of the river though...
My wife wants to build in Britannia but the only problem with that area is the lack of stores near by, it blows. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I’d rather have 4 acres west of the city.
You don’t shop at Safeway if you live here... but you can if you want (mission Safeway is awful though)This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Not sure what more you want? Chinook is right down the road, bestbuy and CT on 17th. Sunterra and hipster ice cream in Britannia itself
This seems to be a trend at pretty much any school but I can see how Webber could be the worst. There are some mornings my wife can't get out of the alley to take the kid to daycare because idiot moms park across the entrance to the alley and get out to walk their kids to the school and wait with them. This happens frequently, like >2 times a week frequent.

Elbow drive & Glenmore are nightmares during Rush hour.
Hopefully I can convince my Wife to stay on the West side.

My sons school has multiple exit points so it’s usually not too bad.
This morning seemed to be a shit show with Moms nearly running over kids trying to cross the street.
It’s like they just don’t give a shit about anyone but their own kids.
I thought the whole point of being self employed was to avoid rush hour? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Fuck i hate when the moms park on the corners by the school near my house! Otherwise i live in a poor person community so 90% of the kids walk haha
school pick up and drop make people into neanderthals.
Problem is people don't want to walk. Then complain they are fat. Park far away, walk and teach your kid that walking is good for them.
Webber is special because people drop off like it is a celebrity awards show. I bet they have a red carpet.

Britannia and Elboya are for the new money. Not proper blue bloods that keep this city (nay, province) running. Elboya’s smaller lots are at least keeping some designs in check but whatever has been going on in Britannia over the past decade is so very gauche. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Also Windsor Park is on that map. Those bohemians should be caged off. Infills and duplexes? Basically a ghetto.
A tip for people really looking to bump elbows with the city’s “elite.” You can springboard your way up the Glencoe’s wait list by joining the golf club. The golf course doesn’t have a wait list so when you join you pay to become a social member at the Glencoe Club which accelerates admission (otherwise you’ll be on that wait list a long time). So an extra $50K, sure. But that’s pocket change when you consider you’re ready to fork over seven figures to some boomers who bought the place for less than $200K in the 80s.
But things are pretty great. Loads of transportation options (#3 bus is regular and pretty efficient, would be even better if somebody would have the balls to get the 4th St plans in motion) Have kids? The buses go right to Western, no need for pickup. The junior highs and elementary schools are walkable, no need for rush hour. Close enough to downtown you can still leisure bike to work and not get all geared up in spandex. The parks and pathways are Great for all sorts of leisure options. So many outdoor skating rinks to choose from (there’s one that has a Zamboni, a hidden gem that probably gets the least used). Those breweries in Manchester are easy to get to. Elbow to Glenmore makes getting out of the city relatively easy to get to the place in Invermere, the Shuswap or Okanagan you’ll probably also have (but I’d suggest leaving work a bit early to beat rush hour to get out to the golf course since those men’s night tee times fill up quick).
True ballers in Brittania don’t shop for themselves
Also Glencoe no longer has a wait list, no golf membership required.

Partially true. No wait list to get on as a social member.. but all your $50k gets you is access to the coffee shop/restaurant and golf simulator. Then its another 3 years for the next level (I think house?) and then another 3-4 to be a full blown member. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
