Default Hit and run by crackhead in stolen truck

I was traveling straight Eastbound in the left lane on 17 Ave SW when out of nowhere a white GMC truck in the right lane turned left in front of me and hit my car. He then sped off down 4 St SW Northbound attempting to flee the scene. I accelerated and stopped my car in front of the truck attempting to stop it, he then turned left onto Westbound 15 Ave SW in the wrong direction and immediately struck a parked black Acura. I parked my car and attempted to chase on foot but he reversed and sped off down 15 Ave in the wrong direction.

He was located about 20 mins later by Hawcs helicopter and stopped by CPS.

I got some security footage of my sick ebrake turn and foot chase.

So whats my best case scenario here? I want to keep my Subaru obviously after all I've done to it. Claims adjuster should be coming Monday, I just have PLPD on it. Who should I be trying to get money from, and for what?

Oh man, this could be really bad for you with just PLPD. See what the adjuster says, but I'd guess you are paying out of packet to fix it and suing the guy in small claims court?

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

That's basically what I envisioned the second he hit me and why I tried so hard to stop him. Fucks sake. Maybe instead I just wait outside of the small claims court and take his kneecaps instead of trying to get blood from a stone.

What did the cops say about the sick e-brake turn? Hope you don't get charged.

Not sick enough. Should have gone in reverse like Jackie Chan and chase him down the one way street facing the right way.

    Stolen truck?

Are you sure he doesn't have insurance?

Isn’t there a fund for this exact scenario that every insured driver pays into?

I think that fund only pays for injuries, I could be wrong though.

[strike]My understanding with PLPD is that you have to go, yourself, after the insurance agency, of the other vehicle (with full coverage, your insurance company would take care of everything).

If the vehicle was insured, chances are good you can get something.[/strike]

EDIT - wrong, you end up with nothing.....

I haven't had PLPD since back when I was a teen, but this may be the right place for @spikerS to say that comprehensive and collision are not that expensive....

Unless your insurance goes up 40% and makes your insurance ridiculous lol. Then you start to wonder is the extra costs worth it on a vehicle you paid less than say $2,000 on?

PSA, even without crackhead, 17th ave + 4th st SW is one of the worse intersection in this city.

If you haven't had PLPD since back when you were a teen then you've been operating a vehicle illegally in Alberta for all of those years because PLPD is the mandated portion of auto insurance that one is required to carry, collision and comprehensive are the optional portions.

Somehow though, I think I am being old here and am just missing something that you're saying in jest - doesn't matter really, I'll nod off and wake up a little bit later and everything will be new to me again.

I think he is saying that he hasn’t had “only” PLPD since he was a teen.
