I wonder if in a private school you can avoid additional costs in the form of "rewards"? Or is that a problem everywhere...

One of the private schools up in Aspen is advertising that you can do all your private schooling online for the next school year, im wondering if this private school will also expect $1500-2000 a month per kid or whatever it costs.

    https://calgaryacademy.com/our-programs/blended/

Mostly online with a in person once a week - cost 13900 per year.

They must be hoping the parents are "challenged" too.

    What is your admissions criteria?
A new applicant may be considered a candidate for Calgary Academy if he or she has average to above-average intelligence and no primary social/emotional and/or behavioural issues that require additional support.
I'm not familiar with this school, but that doesn't sound like it.

The primary focus of our Academy program is to understand the root cause of each child’s learning difficulties. We then develop a customized learning plan to effectively address the specific areas of need while leveraging natural strengths to return joy and confidence to the learning experience. We then coach each student to develop a personalized series of tools and strategies which can be applied across multiple environments and contexts.
It's a school for kids who aren't retarded, but don't do well in a traditional class setting. I have a friend who pays out the ass for this place because his kids is lysdexic, and public school was, well, it's usual public school self, useless.

I see. Issues, but a certain narrow type of issues. Gotcha.

Probably a good place for one of mine TBH. Maybe too far down the various spectra.

Also, fun fact, did you know that Dyslexia is no longer a diagnosis? They don't use that term in a clinical setting. That's confusing for everyone but the clinicians.

Agree that regular neighbourhood public school is a nightmare for kids with even minor issues. The CBE does have certain specialized programs that are quite good. They do a great job of keeping them a secret though.

The difficulty I would have with Calgary academy or some of the Charter schools like Westmount is that I don't necessarily want my kid to be put in a pool of kids that aren't ...representative... of the overall population.

That's both the biggest pro, and a real con, of that concept.

Going to any post-secondary school precludes representation of the overall population.

Well presumably any child of Aspen is going to post secondary, that's what I'm saying. At that point you've made yourself exclusive.

I think the less my kid interacts with the average walmart mouth breather the better. Maybe she should be exposed early to realize how stupid they are?

My desire to be an engineer approaches zero.
