Brentwood Remodel! Follow Along Our Journey
My wife and I have just taken possession of what is to be our "forever" home this past Monday.
We are planning to do a down to the studs demo plus add on an additional 400sq feet.
I figured the Beyond community would be interested in following along the journey of the project!
I'll upload some pictures in a bit of what the place looks like now.
We having been working with a Design+Build firm over the past couple months and anticipate signing a contract this week to get things started!
Quick Story of how this came about (I had made reference to this in a few other threads):
-Purchased starter home in Evanston almost 10 Years ago.
-Grew tired of the commute downtown, small lot size, cookie cutter home we had
-Decided to list our place in Evanston. Received an offer within 10 days for what we were looking for. (September 2019)
-In between acceptance and final release of conditions, find out we are having a surprise 3rd baby.
-Go back to the buyers, tell them our situation, and that we want to back out of the deal, keep our house, and just reevaluate our lives after our 3rd kid comes.
-Buyers love our house, tell us they want the house anyway.
-Move forward with sale of our house. Find a short term rental, with the intention of looking in the Spring of 2020 for our next property.
-Three weeks into moving into short-term rental, family friend informs us they are selling their home in Brentwood, privately, and would like a young family to move in, and take advantage of all the schools around.
-We view the property, not in the best of shape.
-Settle on a price, it ends up being $140,000 below city assessed value.
-Just took possession, plan on staying in short-term rental until renovations are complete and will move in.
Meeting with our Design Build firm tomorrow (January 28th, 2020) with hopes to get started on demo within the week!
Love the response already, and look forward to sharing our journey. Some of beyond know already, but I am a Financial Planner, so construction is the furthest thing from my scope of expertise, so am open to feedback and comments and questions and all that good stuff.
