Teksavvy just stopped accepting new customers. Even though its been working great for me (perfect Netflix streaming) obviously they are having issues over in Ontario. They are also raising the bargain basement from $24 to $29. They say its to upgrade, I believe them.
Could also be related to Shaw not wanting to send their workers into peoples homes to do the hookup.

I was supposed to get our water meter replaced and they cancelled the appointment saying they're not doing any home installs. Might be similar to Shaw.

When I did my cable internet with Teksavvy, I just gave up on scheduling a timeslot and plugged in into the existing outlet and asked for a hit. Technician was never necessary. DSL would probably have to be done by a tech though.

I think they also are starting to get flooded with people looking for budget options.

It usually comes down to if the previous person had Shaw internet or not. If it's still set up right you can just hookup your modem and they can re-activate things. But often they have to come and connect the line at the neighborhood node if a previous tech removed it.

Do you use bridge mode with Shaw TV? I havent figured out a way to do that yet.
Reluctantly signed up with Shaw a couple of weeks ago. Tech told me I needed to get dual IP's to bridge, and that there would be a perpetual Wifi network displayed for the Wireless boxes.

I ended up bridging anyways, and connected the boxes to my own WiFi network and they worked just fine. Ended up connecting them via Ethernet since I had ports handy.

@spikerS , any chance I could get a hookup with that referral system for Telus? Moved out of the parents house which was FTTH, where Telus was nice enough to let me cancel for free, but I need to set up a new Telus account for them. Also, any idea if one can just reassign hardware from one account to another? The one rep I spoke to said that they need to send out a new set and I would have to return my set.

Hmm i'll have to try this. Is there a setup/diagnostic screen with the boxes that lets you choose a different wifi network? I cant remember.

There is, if you go into the settings>network? menu there's an option to select Wifi network. They also work over Ethernet if you have ports nearby. @A2VR6

    How does this work?
Is it a discount or access to different promotions?

Basically, it is an internal referral system for "friends and family". If I know someone that is interested in signing up or switching to TELUS, I can enter them into the program. Once entered, the potential customer will be contacted by a TELUS representative where they will, together, go over options for service. Depending on what is available, there are some plans (sometimes) that are not available to the regular public, or rate discounts. These vary at times and are not always available. It just depends on the time if they are available or not. There is usually at the minimum a bill credit that gets applied at the start. usually, it is a one time credit, sometimes, there is a recurring bill credit.

Basically, it is a negotiation. after that, it is just the normal process. A Technician will visit and install and you are off to the races.

At the minimum, it saves you some cash upfront.

Can confirm, was just in-market plans and an upfront bill credit.

    Thanks Spikers!

Step 1: try to cancel and ask for loyalty department to call you back.

Just renewed with Shaw a couple weeks ago and got Total TV, Fiber 1GB, and Basic Phone for $130/month. Also included a $300 bill credit.

I just cancelled my telus internet and they didn't push back at all, it was so easy I was almost worried she might accidentally cancel my cellphone too.

"Hi I just wanna cancel my smart hub account at the end of this billing cycle"
    "Ok, whats your account pin?"
    "xxxx"
    "Ok its cancelled, anything else?"

This happened to me with Shaw. A day or two later the retentions department called me back.

Maybe this has been discussed somewhere but I will post it here as well for those with older parents. Telus offers "Internet for Good" which gives you like 50mbps for $20 or 25mbps for $10 if you are on OAS.

    https://www.telus.com/en/social-impa...rs/application

Have to prove you are on OAS but after that they sign you up. Good deal for people with older folks.

Anyone know what EPP pricing for home services from Telus is like today?

I contacted my EPP company partner and they don't have access to the home services anymore... but he gave their # to call them.

Just wondering what to expect. They don't seem to be offering much of a discount anymore these days but I keep hearing there's good deals to be had if you get lucky with what rep you get.

My 2 year contract is up this month so I have to do something quickly!

I signed up with Telus for our new house and there was nothing much for rebates or additional deals from what the rep told me. The "new" customer deal was reasonable enough, so I went with a TV/internet package. If you're a Telus mobility or Koodo customer there was a discount, or if you wanted to bundle home security.
