    Default Fashinistas: Vests?

My dudes, what's the deal with vests? Like you know a three piece suit, but without the suit jacket?

I'm not fashionable guy, but I should occasionally look a little classy for work meetings. Thinking a few dressy vests would be a nice mix-and-match option to be slightly less formal than a suit, but still classy and maybe interesting.

    What say you?

I accidentally voted 'dope bro!', hard no for me though - just wanted to clarify.. haha. I'd rather go with a blazer/ sport coat or even a sweater.

When i picture someone wearing a vest to a meeting its with a White V neck underneath and leather bracelet on...

I also think it matters on your build and overall fashion sense lol, i mean it can look good.. But you gotta be a small dude that can finish off the entire outfit.

I wear polo's to work 90% of the time, so i might not be a great person to lend this advice.

What you describe, weird, no way I could trust a guy dressed like that.

Patagonia style keep warm / keep shirt clean vest. Decent look.

Unless you're going for this look, then you're just a bad ass.

No vest. Formal vest is a really tough look to pull off (better to just wear a blazer or suit, no tie). Patagonia vest is for the under 25 crowd. This look started in finance firms years ago, and now every new grad is wearing them and thinking they're baller. It's got nothing to do with keeping warm/keeping shirt clean, get real @killramos

Vest with no shirt is hot. Add a bow tie for special occasions.

OK, when I google image search "man in vest" I have to say I hate about 97% of the pics that show up. So maybe that's my queue that this is a dangerous path to tread.

I do rock a sweater vest, and I'm comfortable with that look, and how to apply it. Was asking about something more like this:
Kinda like this guy I guess?

Haha I legit used one to keep my shirt clean while eating lunch for a bit there, never wore it away from my desk.

But hey I’m not 25 anymore...

I think this tends to look better on folks with darker skin. I don't mean tanned, I mean Middle East & India, for example. White folks tend to look gangly and pasty for whatever reason.

I wore a vest for our wedding.. no way I'm going to wear a jacket in Mexico.

I have a jacket vest but now this thread is making me want to also get a fleece vest too.

As a asian kid growing up, I wanted 2 things. A bowl haircut and a vest. My parents said no to both. Said I'm not a Asian gang member so they're not buying me it or paying for hair cut.

    LOL thanks Ercchry.

I would say yes for the vests. But it depends on how you hold it and how it fits to the rest of your clothing.
You either end up looking a like a fuckboy trying too hard or you pull it off.

It has to all fit in. The vest is just one part of many.

You need a good quality and good fitting pair of trousers(pants).
A nice shirt. Don't do the white shirt with red tie. It just does not work. Even on tanned skin.
Pick a good fitting shirt(not from Walmart) with a good fabric. Go for pastel colors. Go for cuffs if you can and pick good cuffs. Nothing cheesy that represents something football teams or anything.

I have a book, 85 ways to tie a tie (im not making this up). Pick a good tie and do the right knot for the shirt. Because the collars are all different. I do the Platsburge knot.

You can get a non suit vest. Those can work. But make sure it fits well and the color pallet works. i.e dark blue goes well with almost anything.

Wear a good watch, nothing too ostentatious, trim and neaten the face fuzz. I'd say polish the shoes. But you already do that.
Add all those things up. It looks good.
I have a relative, he wears cheap shirts, bad patterned ties, trousers from lulu lemon and very ostentatious watch and cheap shoes. It just does not work.

Last but not least. Your not wearing this for anyone. You are wearing this for yourself and there is nothing wrong with making a effort and looking good for yourself. Thats how you pull it off.

I must ask... which watch does the aforementioned relative wear?

I’m also curious about the “good watch”, in the context of your second last paragraph, that you would rock?

    No vest.

The only times I've seen vests work is when the person has already committed to a classy style that is maintained consistently.

The dude also happens to tie his tie in knots that I haven't even heard of.
