Default Can someone explain the point of foreign dog rescues?

So, apparently this is an ongoing thing for a few organizations. People "rescuing" dogs from foreign countries and bringing them back to Canada to be adopted. I get that nobody likes to think about poor starving puppies, but why source them from so far away? I'm pretty sure there's shitloads of dogs to rescue right here in Canuckland, isn't there? Why source the animals from so far away?

Seems like you could probably rescue 3-4x as many dogs locally if you weren't paying the costs to fly people and animals all around the world.

What the hell am I missing here? Are foreign dogs better or more deserving of love? Do they bark in adorable accents?

    I'm baffled.

Then their "charity" pays for the flights to overseas... So Karen doesn't need to have a real job to get travel rewards.

Yeah, my opinion of the rescues is continually deteriorating - this FB hubbub about a dog cull in northern Manitoba on a reserve being the latest. Yeah they're not willing to travel there or make an attempt to catch any but killing wild dogs is wrong...

I think a chemical is released if you steam your vag followed by a coffee in your rectum that makes you feel compelled to rescue foreign dogs. It's as simple as that!

We're living in a time where a respected environmental group is trying to ban Chlorine. Like, literally ban the seventeenth element on Earth, from Earth... We elected the child of a former PM to be our PM while the Americans elected a reality TV star. We recently had a pretty serious problem with adults eating Tide Pods while having enough trouble keeping babies away from the candy coloured cleaning pods. Fully knowing this, we are still about to make THC literally into candy.

It's an exciting time to be alive.

it did occur to me that a totally sensible reason to want a foreign rescue dog as a pet is that it makes a better fashion accessory if it has an interesting origin story and allows conspicuous virtue signaling at the same time as flaunting wealth.

^ my (ex) sister in law wasted almost 10k on a former Mexican street dog.

A complete virtue signalling and fashion accessory - daily social media horseshit posts about the thing before she got it and then just ignored the animal after, as it obviously needed training. Its already bit a few people but she refuses to put it down.

They're all complete fucking idiots. Go save, or even feed, an at risk kid if you actually care about something.

This whole animals are people/should have equal rights to people ridiculousness is getting insane.

Yes, there are local dogs needing rescue/adoption. And there are quite a number of organizations that do very good work.
There are other countries where there are no, or fewer organizations to take care of the need and way more dogs in need, in worse conditions.
Personally, we have escorted 4 dogs from Mexico, back to Calgary where they were handled by one of the local organizations.
No, they don't pay for flights. They provide carriers, and pay the $50.00 fee (I don't recall if that's an airline fee or a fee at customs)
There's nothing in it for the person transporting the dogs, other than some stress added to travelling. and the great feeling that you saved some worthy animals.

I donate to local organizations, a rescue in Mexico, and an organization in Florida who handle rescues from Korea.

If you got a Mexican dog you could let it out and grab some rabbit for a stew

Very good. We use to have horse meat all the time. Usually mixed it with pork to give it some fat to make it easier to bbq or fry.

Some people think improving the quality of an animals life is a worthy cause.

I constantly see people say that animal lives are equal, or even more important in some cases, than human lives. It confounds me. Brings up an ethical question: there is a runaway trolley headed towards all 5 of your beloved pets, but you are standing next to a switch and can divert the trolley to another track where it will kill a complete stranger. Would you do it?
