They stopped making seadoo boats a long time ago, so probably the old engines.

All boats are a nightmare... but TBH, I've destroyed my Rotax, but since its a 2 stroke, the repair for a top end or long block is about as easy as it gets. Its the eletrical and stuffs like starters, rectifier that starts getting older on the old stuff, and also Winter is never nice to any boat. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Scarab and Glastron offer the Rotax motor, Yamaha does Jet boats as well... If it were me? I'd go Yamaha for a jet boat or a jet ski, but that said, Jets are better in lower draft BUT honestly... if its a boat, buy an outboard.
Its bad enough to have to do maintenance to an inboard motor, but an inboard and have to maintain the pump is a PITA.
I do like that Seadoo pro
Based on our experience with 3 different boats over ~20 years, that is definitely not true. Our oldest boat was a 2-stroke and the newest was an inboard. YMMV of course but all boats are not nightmares. I do think a lot of people don't maintain them properly though - and from what I see around lakes, quite a few people have no business owning a boat lol. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. its the winters that kill boats, and a traditional fiberglass runabout inboard or wake boat does require TLC... so its like any vehicle you need to do the proactive and preventive maintenance. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
That said, I love boating.. but I'm going for a bilgeless pontoon with a quality 4stroke outboard, which to me is the best balance between maximum enjoyment and least maintenance
My Dad bought a Seadoo GTI 155 SE brand new in 2008 and still has it. Great little water toy. It has never had any issues, just regular maintenance/winterizing.
I would say go with the 155 over the 130, the 155 has a lot of power (but no issues with superchargers etc), accelerates out of the hole like crazy and I topped it out at ~56-59 mph depending on how glassy the water was (you go a little faster when its not perfectly glassy)
It has the power to pull me up on a slalom ski, and we did pretty much every other water sport (ski, kneeboard, wakeboard, etc) behind it. No where near as good as a boat for things like that but it does the trick.
You can also get into some pretty cool shallow areas that a regular boat wouldn't go which is kind of cool, I went a little ways up the ghost river from ghost lake which is interesting.
best of luck with the search.
