Nobody's arguing, all I did was reply with my personal experience and obviously YMMV. I've been in that exact station and had it work out just like I described, so I shared my experience.

It's not really a downgrade - just for example if I am with someone, maybe we get the place with a big jacuzzi. If I'm alone, I can get just as nice of a place in a similar location without that, for less money, and I don't need a huge hot tub all to myself. Big difference between that and a hostel. Or maybe you get the place with the queen bed instead of a king, but all else equal. You aren't really downgrading, but you're saving money. Basically you just adjust the amenities to better suit 1 person rather than 2, and you can pay a lot less but maintain the same location and overall quality of accommodation.
Blitz is saying your $80/night/person place is also good for 2 people
Meaning it becomes $80/night/2people or $40/night/person

But you're arguing that a one person room is $80 and therefore a two person room is $160 and hence no savings to double up... :eyeroll:

No, I am saying that amenity requirements are often different for 1 person vs 2, and therefore there is often a cost difference. I also said YMMV, because I can only speak from my personal experience, which has worked out just like I am describing. Obviously if you want to cram 2 people in a capsule hotel it's technically possible, but I don't think that's reasonable.

It's also cheaper traveling alone because you don't have to pay for nice restaurants, you can just eat Kirkland Signature protein bars. I mean what's the point if you're alone, right?

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

You seem REALLY concerned about this for some weird reason, but had you read my OP, I said that food is basically an even split. Everyone I've ever traveled with, we both like to eat our own food.... Most travel expenses are very proportional to the number of people involved. It'll probably never be exactly 50/50 but it can definitely be close. Once again, I am just sharing my experience to show that it is certainly possible, but YMMV.

Exactly. Moooooar money to drink instead.

    Edit:

I'd say annually wife and I are generally around 5k in a normal year. This year will be around 10k, maybe a little more. Our 5 day trip to LA next month is probably going to fall into the 5k mark once all said and done but that's NBA tickets pricing fault and not my desire to sit somewhere decent haha.

We're talking about another 1 or 2 trips this year. See how it all plays out.

Typically vacation to somewhere in the states or all inclusive.
