I heard some restaurants in Japan aren't allowing foreigners due to the coronavirus scare.

MSC Meraviglia in the Caribbean rejected from 3rd port with sick crew members. I wonder if that's the cruise ship that Shakalalalakakarmachameleon is hopping on.

Calgary to Tokyo - $468 - dates all year round.

They just closed all schools for a month.. but that price though.
Could you not book it for end of year with cancellation insurance as a pretty safe bet?

I'd presume that by November they've developed a vaccine and things calm down and if not probably reasonable reason to cancel your trip though I guess it depends on how stingey the cancellation insurance is

Just had one of my staff come in to let me know they are cancelling their vacation to Japan in a couple of weeks. They were taking the kids and with everything shutdown they decided to wave off.

I have a Europe trip at the start of April, mostly Paris. Still planning on going, hoping it is a little less busy. Admittedly, a lot can happen in the next month but for now we aren't changing our plans.

I'll be back in London next week, not worried.

Lot's of seat sale emails coming in the last few weeks though. Airfare is getting to be very cheap

Iran was (and still is) definitely under reporting stats when it comes to the virus.

    Iran: 388 cases / 34 deaths
    South Korea: 2337 cases / 16 deaths

Realistically Iran probably has 10x as many cases as their stats are showing right now.

Everything back to $1000 now. But they are cancelling some flights and moving people around to other flights. AC cancelled quite a few YYC to HND direct flights and forcing people thru YVR now.

Same boat for us in July... Unless we are not allowed to go for some reason, we will still do it, but definitely will be putting on a mean mug everywhere we go to try and keep people from wanting to get up close! haha!

If you don't already have travel insurance it might be good to add some on asap. Manulife announced as of tomorrow, new travel insurance policies won't cover any corona related cancellations. Other provides will likely follow suit soon

I got the insurance when I booked the tickets... Never a bad idea!

Don't you have to pretty well be on your death bed for travel insurance to pay out? I've never had to use it but that was always my understanding. If you want to cancel because everything is closed and you're going to have a crappy trip, I don't think that is a reason they care about.

It only covers certain things, yeah. But a country being put on travel advisory to avoid flying to is usually covered (Though check your policy). So for example a trip to Italy would be covered to cancel now but a trip to the US wouldn't (unless it's added to the travel advisories)

From the conversations I have had, it has to be level 4 travel advisories before they will compensate.

I didn't know that, thanks. Sounds like it might be one of the few times it's actually worth it, but sucks that they are starting to back out of the coverage.

You can (could?) also get "CFAR" insurance - cancel for any reason.

    That's what we bought.
