Why isn't the vaccination screen done at security?
Probably union and "not my problem"ism. That law is about boarding, not going thru security gate.

Also full ban doesn't come into effect until Nov 30th and federal vax passport needs a few more weeks to bake. So today it's just a soft opening or sorts.

Flying domestically soon with Westjet out of Edmonton.

What do we need to show? QR code? Do they need to see what doses we got? What goes on?

If it's anything like when I flew internationally a couple of weeks ago, they briefly look at your papers and send you on your way. Your QR code will show what shots you had as well, so just have it on your phone or print it off. Bring an extra mask or two if you are doing a long-haul flight. Nice to put on a fresh one after a meal.

Flew WJ to Van this weekend. QR code reader at the gate and ask for id and you have to pull your mask down to verify. Security was more hit and miss. My wife and I only had to show boarding pass while my sister and her husband had to show vax qr code. Security was more of a hassle than anything, they went through our bags like we were smuggling something into jail.

Flight was full and full on masks, no problem there.

Will be flying back from PHX later this month and then to Mexico. Expect a wave through in Mexico. LOL

Off to Thailand in Jan. and that will be a whole different story, as they are just opening back up and are changing the rules almost daily

I am headed to LA in just over a week, going to Shoppers for antigen here for $40 and booked a PCR for $90USD for my return. Is this free test at CVS very hit and miss? Would like to allocate that $90 to 1-2 more beers at the football game sunday.

    Yassssss

Except it seems like, practically speaking, basically nothing has changed.

Before boarding a flight to the United States, you are required to show one of the following:

If you are fully vaccinated: Proof of vaccination and a negative COVID-19 test result taken no more than 3 days before travel.
    https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019...ir-travel.html

So basically I can get away with an antigen test instead of PCR?

Big woop. Especially since I can HSA a PCR test but not an antigen test lol.

What I need is for them to drop the PCR test requirement to fly back into Canada.

I'm really hoping to see this change before February as well. But if I can get away with a cheap Antigen test at least, I won't complain too bad.

New guidelines for travel to Hawaii for non-US travelers

    https://governor.hawaii.gov/newsroom...-requirements/

Have to be double vaxxed and they are now going to accept NAAT or antigen tests instead of just PCR

It would be novel if the Hawaiians would stop pretending Canadian vaccines are different than American vaccines.

Their distinction isn’t whether you are American or Canadian. Just where you got your shots. Kind of hilarious.

Also the Canadian PCR test needs to go, but it sounds like gov is getting a lot of pressure in Ontario and Quebec border regions about that one so hopefully we need some progress there.

    Starting Nov. 8

International passengers entering the U.S. from another state or territory will be treated as domestic travelers when entering the State of Hawaiʻi. The Safe Travels Hawaiʻi program remains in place for domestic travelers.

Current Safe Travels Hawaiʻi requirements for domestic travelers include:

Creating a Safe Travels Hawaiʻi account on a digital device
    Entering trip details
Filling out a health form, and
Attesting that all information is correct.
Currently, travelers may bypass the state’s mandatory 10-day quarantine in one of two ways:

    1) Upload a vaccination document; or

    2) Upload a negative NAAT test result.

Doesn’t or imply one or the other???

I guess only if you are in the US already.

So you can drive across with no PCR test if you are double vaxxed and then can fly, but if you are flying outside of the US you need both. What a fucked up rule.

    Weird.

Except for the point that it defaults to federal government rules for international travellers which are very clearly double vaccinated AND negative test.

The only thing that has changes is you don’t need to use hawaiis safe travels system and you don’t expressly need a PCR test.

What you quoted are the rules for Americans. Which are different. I suppose you could try flying to LA or something first, but you need need double vax and negative test to get there which makes it moot.

Yeah Hawaii you need a negative test result either way but the big change now is that you can get a antigen or pcr test here and it’s fine for entry. They got rid of the requirement that the test had to be done by a list of approved test providers which was the biggest inconvenience for Canadians.

Cost savings too which is nice as a PCR test is $150+ a pop. We have a trip booked for Kauai at that end of January so I'm very happy about the change.

Worth noting is that I can HSA a PCR test for travel but not a rapid test.

So it’s actually cheaper for me to just do PCR, hence nothing changing.

Worth checking your coverage on that one.

Being able to do rapid at your destination to come home would be the real win, I am game with going to get a PCR a couple days in advance here where I can organize it.

But the added timing and location flexibility of rapid at my destination would be helpful, as it is I’m just going to pre book a CVS appointment 48 hours from departure but I’ll need to cab into town to go do that which is a pain.

Air Canada is offering the Switch Health test kits for remote testing now which is compliant for return to Canada, if you didn't want to go to a pharmacy or testing location where ever you're at.

I'd rather do a clinic run or someone doing it for me. You have to go in there deep so you don't get a false reading.

Sold out. And make sure not to get the antigen ones because those are still not accepted for return to Canada.
