The real solution as always is don’t be poor, and cut out the middle man.

Our second kid will be here any day, but we finally booked something...

Vancouver for 5 days in May, Maui or Mexico for two weeks in November.

Checking if you all bought COVID insurance on top of your personal/employer health insurance that includes travel recently?

So many rule changes I can't keep up.

Going to Mexico on the 19th and sticking with the work insurance. Hotel offers free stay if you get covid there, but it sounds like the tests are pretty basic. Not too worried, as the family got it over christmas.

I bought more 3rd party through Manulife. Going to put a claim through with work and with the Manulife. See if they both pay.

what does your personal/employer health insurance cover that you are looking for an additional one?

when we went to Hawaii, we bought the COVID insurance from Manulife, it was under 40$ for the 3 of us and would cover accommodation, flight and medical if required. usually 3rd party insurance will want you to go through your primary ones for healthcare before them.

Need Westjet to run that "let someone else use your companion voucher" promotion again. Need to send my wife and one kid to Regina. I sure as fuck don't want to join them.

You need to both get independent cards. Then each gets voucher every year.
Second card on your account is useless.

No I know. I don't need more vouchers in any normal year and I'm far too cheap to pay for two separate cards.

I actually wasn't sure so I asked them:

You have out-of-country emergency medical coverage.

If you experience an emergency while traveling, your first step will be to call Allianz Global Assistance at 1-800-511-4610 in Canada and the U.S. You can also call collect, through an international operator at 1-519-514-0351.

They work with you to assess your coverage; help arrange treatment and manage your claim.

Sun Life treats illness contracted due to the Coronavirus while out of Canada as any other medical emergency. This means there is no exclusion to treating someone because this is a pandemic vs. another type of medical emergency. Expenses must be included in the plan and are subject to any limitations in the contract. We encourage you to contact the travel assistance provider (Allianz Global Assistance) to discuss any specific needs.

We won't cover plan members who are required to Quarantine unless they require immediate emergency medical treatment. This includes Clients who:
    - Test positive for COVID-19 but are asymptomatic or are experiencing mild symptoms that do not require immediate medical treatment; or
    - Test negative for COVID-19 but are still required to quarantine.

Additionally, incidental expenses related to a positive COVID-19 test that does not require emergency medical treatment, such as trip interruption costs, rebooking flights, hotel accommodations and meals, will not be covered.

yeah this is the part that work insurance doesn't generally cover which is why we got a 3rd party insurance.

we used this but I think previous post someone else found a cheaper one
    https://www.manulife.ca/personal/ins...canadians.html

Includes Trip Interruption Insurance benefits in the event of quarantine (up to $200 per insured person per day for your additional and unplanned commercial hotel and meal expenses to a maximum of $2,800 if you are unexpectedly required to self-isolate or quarantine. Family coverage maximum is $400 per insured family per day to a maximum of $5,600)

You need that extra voucher right meow, Dummy!
The extra $120/year pays for itself if you simply get the family on a plane once per year. It doesn't have to be to Bali or Paris spending tens of thousands.
You plus free companion child. MrsExtraSexy plus free companion child. "Goin to Winnipeg!"
    Profit.

But if you're more about that pulling trailer and camping life now that you got that fancy truck etc, then it's not for you.

I used my first voucher this week in 5 years. Took probably 20 trips in that time span and it was never better to use my voucher than it was to just book delta or AA airlines instead. Westjet prices were always so inflated even with the voucher. But Vegas for EDC week prices spiked up so the voucher saved 200$ and ended up covering the rest with wsd so worked out well use up all that

Yeah, we don't do airplane vacations with the family every year, and don't plan to start. And often when we do it's through WJ Vacations, where the companion voucher doesn't help.
I just like to complain, not looking to make a change.

Is EDC the one where everyone does Ectasy and gets and STD? That one sounds fun.

I’d be alright with that. Just booked flights for a week in Arizona.
