Well my dad got through. Left Calgary just after 6am, got to the border lineup at 930. Got through about 1pm.

Their friends lined up just before midnight and didnt get through until 9am. Seems wasteful.

Is there a reason why there's a giant rush to leave?
29C in Mesa, 6C in Calgary. Might as well get down there. I asked my dad about it and he said it's a 28 hour drive / 2900kms for them, the border wait is a drop in the bucket whether its an hour or 5 hours. Whether they go today or go in a week they'd end up waiting one way or another so might as well just head down and get it over with.

I'm glad they got through, and obviously, they aren't the only ones who think this way. Seems crazy to me to do things that will add a few hours to a trip like that, but hey, old folks have nothing but time.

at the YYC airport now waiting for our flight to AMS
3hrs before flight and got through security in 15min, there was a rush of travellers though right after us.
security didnt ask for vaccination records, just our plane tickets. is this normal?
is it during boarding that they will ask for the vaccination/qr?

Drove down Wednesday and it was the easiest border crossing I have ever had - not a single other vehicle, not a single question. Glorious. Now hopefully Canada catches up before I head back!

Not going anywhere until the idiotic negative test requirement for re-entry is gone.

Has anyone been to Maui reasonably recently?

Curious on if I should be basically pre booking restaurants due to availability constraints? I took a quick look and noticed some places might be difficult to get a table at even weeks in advance.

Figured it would be worth an ask. Would hate to get there and be in a pinch for dinners.

Moronic to require PCR in the first place but a good first step.

Vaccinated is vaccinated - what's the difference in 80 hours to 72 hours.

Under 72 hours. Over that still requires a test.

Wife just went to palm springs and had a test booked at shoppers on the friday night at 7 and when she got there they told her the lady was gone but when they found out she was flying out the next morning they ended up doing it themselves for her and yyc didnt even ask for it. On the way back she booked 2 tests because she wasnt sure how long for results and thankfully she did because the first test was invalid, she showed customs and they said they need a test with the time of the test shown which the second did.

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

They're simply getting rid of a logistical blunder. If your trip is 72 hours or less, then you can get your PCR test before you even board the plane to leave Canada. So it's pointless(so are tests for returning Canadians, but I digress)

Kind of funny the article mentions the 3 amigos summit between US, Canada, and Mexico. Talking about how they need to work together to get borders moving for business an whatnot. But didn't mention that Mexico literally has no entry requirements at all aside from a 3 question covid survey equivalent of what you have to fill out when you go to the dentist now. It's really just Canada that needs to get their shit together at this point.
