The idea that someone is tying all this together in the background seems hilariously naive to me
Between the solitaire and minesweep games, do gov't agencies have time?

Came back from Jamaica last night and there was no mandatory testing or quarantine mentioned for all passengers. It's mandatory randomized testing and no need to quarantine waiting on results. After submitting immigration paperwork in the machine we handed the paper to the CBSA officer and he said my wife had been selected for a random test once we get our bags and exit the customs hall. Once we exited they said if you were selected get in line for your test otherwise you can leave (didn't have to show that I wasn't selected to leave). Wife was through testing in 15 minutes but there wasn't much of a line. As she was waiting it got pretty backed up and people were just leaving.

We were out of the airport within 50 minutes of landing but I think we got lucky as it did get backed up after us.
Similar experience last night. Flew back from Puerto Vallarta, only time ArrivCan checked was by Westjet in PV, where they also checked for negative PCR test. No other time anything was looked at other than Passport at Customs in Calgary. Wife was also selected for random testing. Took about 15mins. Talked to Testing officer and he was surprised all of us on Mexico(Westjet) flight weren't tested because supposedly at 12:00 EST , we landed at 11:00pm, they were to test all travelers from countries other than US. Talked to 2 other guys and their wives were also selected. LOL. He mentioned they were testing about 400 a day on the weekend but about 1000 as of last night. Funny quote from lady in Customs line "This is crazy, there is no COVID". Quote from officer "All this for 11 cases!!!"

    I'm triple vaxed, shield on.

We spent less then 24 hours in the states on thurs/friday through land borders (Kingsgate and Douglas). On way there, didnt even ask if we were vaccinated. maybe 30 seconds at the border. Way back did the ArrivCan, which does not yet have a 'ive been out of the land border for less then 72 hours' option yet (just have to select no, i did not get a test). Pretty simple getting back across, no question of when we actually entered country (i assume that is shared from US Border Services), maybe a minute to get across.

I applied for my kids passports through the mail - sent the package 2 weeks ago and Im still waiting for them to come back. Unsure what the hold up - or anticipated wait time is. Edit mail processing time is 20 business days, in-person is 10
    business days.
We almost did mail as well but the Shawnessy office takes walk-ins so she managed to do it there instead. So she should have it before her original appointment date to just submit it.

Piece of cake coming back from Argentina on Sunday. Was out of the airport 40-50 minutes after landing including paying duty and the wife getting a random test. Less than 10 minutes to get that test

Didn't want to start a new thread so just figure I'd ask this here.

Wife did a new passport application because of name change. Did the application at the Red Deer office and sent off the old passport. That was on Nov. 18. She got the old one back today, so I'm assuming the new one comes in a separate package?

Yes, you're usually 6-8 weeks from receiving the old one back

Why even bother with rules at this point. Enjoy your South African or Amsterdam trip.

Scary Omicron gonna git us all. Let's make sure we keep protecting those who refuse to protect themselves.

At least it's just a warning to not travel, pretty please and not a ban.

Afraid if we implement a ban it will trigger other countries to do so as well, not that I want omicron to spread but really...it's already here/too late.

Trudeau calls every premier in the country into an emergency meeting to announce this?

If I was Kenney my first question to him would have been “could this meeting have been an Email”

All because anti-vaxxers won't just die peacefully at home.

Well it's looking like I'll have to cancel my trip to Japan in February because they aren't letting dirty foreigners in. I am sad
