It seems the QR code on paper doesn't show the vaccine dates (without a code reader) so the host wouldn't let us in without the older paper. Bullet proof.
The rest of the experience was equally sub-optimal as they allowed the place to get loaded up while they had 1.000 servers for the entire place.

It just depends on how you obtained the code. Screenshot of the site will be on QR code. If you click save which actually tries to print it, screenshot that one as it has both QR and readable record. Subsequently, if you add it to apple wallet, the wallet card also has QR and readable record.
