Yes, I have delayed trips due to concerns with the virus.
No, I am proceeding as planned with all travel.
Yes, but I will take precautions and still go.
The Corona threat is all a bunch of hogwash.

99% sure our Japan trip in September will be cancelled. There is no way it's going to happen considering they are still in the early stages of possibly opening up to nearby countries with no indication for North America any time soon (especially with what is happening in the USA).
Why do airlines make it so hard to cancel without fees...
You can cancel anytime now with WestJet.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

US Mainland outbreak spoils it for everyone.
14 day quarantine in place til end of Aug for Hawaii. May be longer.
80% of locals say they don't want tourists right now.

Singapore also not doing well.
Out of Asia, those are the only 2 jurisdiction I trust when it comes to reporting other than Korea and may be Japan.
Looks like we put them on a pedestal all because they only got the Wuhan variant D, not the World's variant G. I think hot weather and lock down fatigue has everyone's guard down.
Also, make sure you have a clean record on your social media regarding CCP if you are flying thru HK. New security law applies to everyone in the world and they can legally nab anyone in transit thru HK if CCP deem you are valuable. So make sure you are a nobody and have said nothing bad against the CCP. Transit thru Tokyo will be safer.

Well, the one silver lining of the dumpster fire is that we've probably saved $35K on travel this year (to date and for the balance of 2020). Had the chat with the boss last night about our usual fall / winter trip South, not going to book anything now until at least spring 2021 and I'm not even convinced that's feasible at this point. We're not interested in going somewhere to have half the amenities available plus quarantine when we get home so it looks like more time in Alberta for us.

Right now the two things that worry me about travel are 1) the plane ride itself and 2) medical insurance at the destination.
My company medical insurance specifically does not cover covid-19 "illness or symptoms" if I travel out of the country for any reason.

Oh shit, I should ask my work about that. My medical insurance is through them. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Some countries are advertising that they will pay for your entire vacation and COVID treatment should you become sick in their country, and they have set up special hospitals specifically for tourists haha. I guess that's one way to go about it.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The 2 week Quarantine when home isn't an issue? I guess maybe not a worry. But for me that eliminates any travel right now. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

That's smaller to me than the insurance. But I can work from home pretty easily if I have to. Obviously depends on your individual situation. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Anyone that can WFH it's probably not an issue. If you're hourly or a contractor, or someone who has to be at work to do the job (i.e. teacher) it's a bigger issue. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
From Austria
thank you very much for your message. We are happy to hear that you are interested in spending your holidays in Austria.
At the moment, travellers from the following countries do not need to show a negative COVID-19 test or commit to quarantine: Belgium, Germany, Denmark (including the Faroe Islands), Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia, Ireland, Cyprus, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, Vatican City, Spain.
The regulation applies only to people who are residents in the listed countries or Austrian citizens. It is also a prerequisite that you have not been in any country other than Austria or those European countries in the past 14 days.
It is not related to nationality. However, the travelers must make it clear that they have not been in any other country than the countries mentioned in the last 14 days. (e.g. by means of a booking receipt, registration form) The random checks are carried out by mixed teams consisting of police and health authorities near the border.
From the UK, Sweden, Portugal, Bulgaria, and Romania only essential travel in conjunction with a negative COVID-19 test or self-quarantine is permitted.
There are no entry bans for Austrian, EU, EEA or Swiss citizens to enter Austria.
Nevertheless, Austria has suspended the entry by third-country nationals, including U.S. citizens, from outside the EU and the Schengen area already since mid-March 2020.
However, any person will only be allowed to enter Austria upon presentation of a medical certificate confirming a negative molecular-biological SARS-CoV-2 test. The certificate must be issued by a licensed medical practitioner in German or English and must not be older than 4 days at the time of entry.

I think if companies allows WFH and you job function allows it, I can't see why you can't quarantine AND work at the same time. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Per capita, HK has 10x less infection than Canada. (0.3% vs 0.02%)
As been next to US, I'm surprised EU didn't ban us by association.
