REVISED DIRECTION | International Travel Pilot & Return to Work After Travel

Earlier today, we advised that the 14-day quarantine requirement would remain in effect for staff and families who participated in the International Travel Pilot. Upon further review, we have determined that individuals who participate in the pilot may return to work or school once they fulfill the requirements of the pilot.

The pilot requires that at a minimum, students may not return to school until they have tested negative in the initial test and negative on a second test 6 or 7 days later.
So that's a significant difference compared to the email I got just yesterday on this subject. Still means kids miss minimum a week of school, but slightly less than 2 weeks.

    That makes more sense.

Guys listen here, the millions of people who have died, the millions of health care workers who are saying this is a serious disease, they’re all wrong about Covid cause tcon apparently had Covid and it was mild like a cold, so now he should be able to travel and not have to abide by quarantine measures

Sure I’ll go back to fear mongering on Reddit and you can go back to conspiracy theory and antivax groups on Facebook
This is the exact type of cringey response Id expect to see on there. You're trying to vilify people who are travelling while taking precautions, when the current problem is community spread, so how about you stop trying to parent people in this thread and move on with you life.

Reminder that the air border remains wide open. A little less of a hassle if you intend to stay away for several months.

Good news if you are a snowbird who normally drives your RV to the USA. There are ways around it!

We already had covid (wife works in a medical clinic and it was bound to happen, ps. its just a cold) so I dont give a fook about the risks now, I just wanna be warm when its -40 here
This type of collective attitude is why we're in this situation.

On a related note is anyone else getting real sick of seeing feeds of peeps traveling and vacationing like its 2019? And I don't mean road trips or a short haul flight. A few friends and travel bloggers I follow are booking and traveling all around domestically US and abroad like its nothing. The amount of privilege and lack of altruism in the middle of a crisis is off the charts.

I guess you could also say the few who are travelling now have a responsibility to do so to keep our airlines, hotels and restaurants alive. I'd hate to roll into 2022 with all of those closed down.

This doesn't bode well for Calgary's pilot travel program. Rapid tests caught 70% of people with covid.

Keeping vital infrastructure like airlines/hotels and small businesses afloat is the government's job up to a point. The businesses that do go under while unfortunate is just part of the business cycle. Economies go into downturns and being pushed over the edge by a deep depression is part of the economic system we've built. If govt can bail out AC in relatively good times due to poor management we should definitely be bailing them out now.

Out of curiosity, what is stopping AC and WJ from declaring bankruptcy and restructuring.

The only people being “bailed out” is airline shareholders.

Airlines don’t really own anything, it’s not like bankrupt Air Canada means no flights in the country, there is a future market for flights once the dust settles, but for the time being I don’t see how giving AC shareholders billions in bailout money is the governments business (aside from how much they own of Air Canada, turns out that was a pretty shitty idea)

I think AC and WJ should declare bankruptcy. Free market. I can always fly Fedex.

Lots of airlines own some or all of their planes, such as WestJet. I think they own around 100 aircraft which is over 50% of their fleet. The rest are leased.

Yeah, no. The collective attitude that Covid is fake, masks are an attack on personal rights, and closing down bars is political suicide, is why we are here. I did my part for months, and so did my GF, but people going out to medical clinics with symptoms was what gave us a couple days of unpleasantness and another 10 off work... But sure wag that finger, you are so righteous it gives us all huge boners we wish we could be like you.

"These results found that 99 per cent of participants tested negative for COVID-19. Of the one per cent who tested positive, 70 per cent tested positive after their very first test, and knew within 48 hours."

I just want to make sure you didn't confuse the headline. It seems like overall the program is a great step in the right direction...
