What are your guys' thoughts on local travel? I've been thinking about driving down to Calgary to visit my parents, basically pile family into vehicle in my garage and drive straight to their place no stops etc. Spend maybe 4 days there and then head back home.
You are likely to get a lot of opinions on both extremes of this topic.

Let your conscience be your guide, and whatever you do don’t be stupid about it.

My vote is for do it, burn some gas and contribute to the economy and a visit with the parents will be good for mental health all around. Low COS of detrimental effects, live your life just avoid people you don’t know.

Well, the "conventional" wisdom on that is that it does increase the risk for both groups, and should be avoided if possible. however, mental health and social stability are improved from maintaining familial relationships. So, yeah, you gotta follow your own path on this.

My kids are still visiting one grandparent on a semi-regular basis as we think the benefits outweigh the risks for our situation. The grandparents on the other side have a different circumstance, so we collectively chose a different strategy for them.

If it’s strictly just family and you trust them do it.

Just make sure you can live with whatever consequences and keep contact to a minimum on the way there. I don't see why not.

I heard on the radio a little while ago that AB BC border is closing to non essential travel. Not sure if it’s true or not.

With flights from YYC to BC now $700+ wonder if that force a lot of people driving into BC instead.

Must be getting ahead of the upcoming long weekend. May not be a bad idea.

Has anyone been successful in getting full refund for flights booked that were cancelled?
Had paid with my Avion Visa. Got cancellation insurance with that card but email goes to black hole and calling means waiting forever.

Yeah this is what it comes down to, we decided to hold off and see how things go the next couple of weeks. Not that it's urgent, just be nice to see them.

Do some video conferencing if you can. Even talking on the phone helps.

Yes. They're not taking calls related to travel at this time or travel cancellation.

edit: For the next guy wanting to find info out...

    https://www.rbcroyalbank.com/credit-...erruption.html
Fill out the form and hope they get back to you.

Trip Cancellation/Interruption claims related to COVID-19 will not be payable if the policy was purchased or the trip was booked/paid on an RBC Credit Card, on or after March 13, 2020 at 5:30PM (EST).

Haven't put in a claim yet still waiting on all the cancellations to actually process. Reading through the Covid notes on the TD insurance site it's definitive reading like the insurance won't do much if i'm are given credits or transfers.

I am assuming insurance will skirt out of this with that credit given.
Not impressed. I didn't accept the credit. It was automatically given.

Life has changed going forward so unlikely can't use vacation. It's going to be a fight to get repaid and I worry airline's jack the price after this is fixed.

I’m gonna try this today... ask for a refund to original payment method, remind them that laws supersede policy, record the denial, then request chargeback for services not rendered
